Zaitsev is a pure cap dump, probably cost a 1st to move his contract.

Edmundson have the same value as Chiarot, let's say a 1st.

Dvorak is having a good season so far, and MTL isn't moving him for less than a 1st.

And OF COURSE Ottawa would protect that 2023 1st.

I don't think that trade is horrible value wise. Is Sogaard such a top prospect he's worth two 1st alone? Don't think so...

Toffoli was expected. Lehkonen was expected. Kulak was slightly higher than normal, but not tremendously.

Meanwhile the Pacioretty trade has more to do with Vegas’s idiocy.

Every Chiarot, Lehkonen, Pacioretty, Toffoli ACGM were getting bashed, even when asking for less than what they actually got.

And now, everyone is saying they NEVER said those players wouldn't be traded for those kind of returns.

Some people even closed accounts or changed names because they were so hard on bashing habs fans, they looked so bad after the trades.

Sure, a top 5 pick is worth the same as a 26+ 1st.

Go after a VGK, COL, CAR 1st and you have a shot as those teams are win now...OTT would be idiotic to trade a 1st for either of those guys.

Could protect the pick top 16, make it a 2023 2nd and 3rd instead of the 1st if they miss the playoffs.

If OTT make the playoffs, MTL get a pick between 17 and 32. If they miss, MTL get a pick between 33 and 48, and a 3rd between 65 and 80.

Because 2023 is a very deep draft, i'd be fine with that return for either player. On another year, i'd want a garanteed 1st.
