I do think both could use a change of scenery, but I think DET passes on this.

Detroit isn't going to trade a 22 year old that will be RFA in three years time for a 26 year old that will be UFA in two even if you add a nobody to the deal.

Make it Kapanen and Nylander and it becomes interesting for Yzerman.

Even then, I probably wouldn't do it. I would take a risk on Nylander but it's not worth taking on Kapanen. If he can't produce with two of the best centres in the league how would he do with Detroit? I would take a chance on him for free maybe but only if we have injuries like this next year.

Well Kapanen doesn’t play with Crosby and Malkin. He has played with Carter, and when Carter has been injured playing with one of either Poehling, Poulin, or O’Connor as his center.

So by that logic you wouldn’t trade Zadina straight up for Guentzel? See how silly that logic is.

Zadina is in a weird position I think. Because of all the players that were bought in the off-season I don’t think we really would e expected Kubalik to bounce back but this time he’s even better than before right now. And other players stepping in to these roles and already a team stacked with good wingers before hand. It just feels like Zadina isn’t meant to be in Detroit anymore. I’d imagine he still has good value as a young lottery picked player. And as a Pens fan this is a deal that isn’t even close to Detroit accepting this trade. But considering how well Kubalik bounced back for them I think Kappy definitely should be considered by Detroit.

I think both players are just in a weird spot tbh. I just don’t get the hype with Zadina. I get he’s a lotto pick but that doesn’t mean he’s played like one. His career high is 24 points in 74 games. That’s .33 ppg. Kapanen has outproduced him every year.

Untapped potential at a pretty young age still. But that is true with Kappy. Right now it’d be a money thing that’d kill Kappy’s value if he’s valued more than Zadina

I just kinda looked at it as similar to the Perron/Hagelin trade. Hagelin was the lesser player with a bigger cap hit but both players just needed the change of scenery and it worked out for both teams. Not necessarily looking to win the deal on paper but finding a better fit. I think Kap on Detroit would do absolute wonders for him. Playing with fast players like Larkin over slower old farts like Carter could be just what he needs.

I love Kappy and his abilities. I hate that he’s been a healthy scratch recently. Hopefully that just means if he comes back to the line up he’ll start producing again.

He doesn't anymore because he wasn't producing with them, mostly played with Malkin in the past. He hasn't earned the opportunity to play with them anymore and last I saw I don't think he was in the line up one game there.

Well that’s just not true. He played exclusively with Malkin his first year back here and had 30 points in 40 games. Last year and this year he has played exclusively with Carter or lesser centers, because last year Malkin was injured for half the year and the pens got Rakell at the deadline.

Ok I may be wrong but this trade doesn't make sense dot the wings anyways. I would take a flyer on Kapanen for free but that's about it. We are heavy on the wing after our signings this off season so no point in paying a guy more who is older and his best season he ever had was with one of the best centres in the league. Honestly rather risk it with Zadina since there is more upside. You pretty much know what you got with Kapanen I think by now at his age, jury is still out on Zadina although I'm not convinced he turns into much either.

Fair enough. I just figure if you’re taking a flyer on Kap and are heavy on the wing that they’d need to send a winger the other way. Zadina, looking at the stats seemed to be the one that was underperforming the most. Just seemed like a change of scenery trade for both players are needed.

Yeah makes sense but with the low cap hit and potential that could be there makes more sense to keep him. I would send Fabbri personally but that is a bigger cap hit.
