Why would Anaheim do this. Hamonic has 3 points in 13 games. He has 17 hits and damn 14 penalty minutes. He does however have +4 in +/-. Klingberg so far has 7 points in 14 games played. He’s on pace for 42 points. Klingberg is also an expiring UFA and the first is top 10 protected.

Because we are going to be sellers at the TDL, its not that unreasonable to have top 10 protection, since the 10 team NTC on klingberg is designed to prevent him from going somewhere that won't make the playoffs. Maybe i'd push it to top 8 protected, but its somewhat semantics, the idea is to send him somewhere where that protection on the pick will not kick in.

Also, why are you not asking for retention, that's one of the biggest selling points of Klingberg on Jan 2 is that Anaheim is willing to retain 50% of his salary in order to boost his value.

But yeah, deal looks about right, 2023 1st, warm body at RD coming back to fill the hole left, maybe a mid round pick or B prospect for the 3.5 million in retention.

I'd do this as a rental late in the season, but I wouldn't intend on resigning him. We have too many contracts that will need to go out and not enough cap to keep them all. Debrincat, Sanderson, Pinto, JBD, Thompson, and Grieg will all need contracts over the next 3 years and we only have so much money. We don't wanna Leafs ourselves.
