Description
With Zaitsev clearing and being sent down, the team has about $5M in cap space.
Per Jeff Marek, the Sens may look at options on the Canucks or Jets bluelines.
These 4 players are the ones that make the most sense to play that top 4 RD position.
Pionk: The best between the 4, so would cost the most. Not sure if WPG wants to move him.
Schmidt: Natural lefty, but could play the right side. More offensive minded, so not sure if Sens want that.
DeMelo: Defensive minded, but has spent most of his time in WPG on bottom pairing. Do the Sens think he can play top 4 if he is re-acquired?
Myers: Only way this is even a thought is if VAN retains half. Myers at $3M is more respectable, but is he really what OTT needs?

I would personally add Parayko/Faulk if they are available. Chychrun has been an option, but he needs to play first.

It's unlikely any of those defenseman are available now with how the Jets are playing. Of the 3, Schmidt would probably be the most likely.

I think WPG is more likely to move someone due to the Heinola pressure from the AHL than them wanting to add assets/sell. Heinola has said that he is frustrated in the AHL, so they may need to move someone to create a spot, or he may request a trade.

Not only this, but Chevy was looking at moving a dman this summer. They need to do something because next year samberg and Chisholm lose waiver eligibility. They have to clear the log jam at some point.

I’d move Schmidt ahead of anyone, but he’s the hardest to move with his contract and NTC. DeMelo is probably the easiest to move. Pionk is the wildcard because Heinola would take his spot, and replace his PP spot too.

i figured it would Heinola on the move out of any of them, if he was good enough he'd crack the roster, its like the POJ issue, where they couldn't fit him initially this season and were looking to move him

Bowness said he’s an NHL caliber player but he’s stuck behind 3 guys on the PP. That’s why he’s not on the team and it’s BS honestly.

Sure, if you want to lose all hope of signing DeBrincat and Zub this year.

As a fellow Sens fan I think we should give up a 2023 unprotected first for him. He's so good

As a Sens fan, it would be an honour to have Calder trophy winner Tyler Myers. We have so many good prospects, I think giving up a 2023 first should get it done

It's actually easy what needs to be done in terms of hockey operations.

Send Zaitsev to Belleville (like MDZ last season), buy him out next summer as it's cheap

The difficult part is to :

      1) Sell the team
      2) New ownership group bring in new management
      3) New management bring in new coaching staff
      4) Profit

They're both Canucks fans who are trying to sell you Myers. You can look it up by clicking on the username

After watching his last 2 games, I wouldn't even do it for Zaitsev straight up and a 1.5 AAV retention

I just wanted to point out that DeMelo has only been on the bottom pair when he’s been mentoring Stanley or Samberg. Otherwise he plays top pair with JMo. He would be the ideal get for the Sens due to organizational familiarity and the fact he would be the perfect partner for Sanderson or Chabot.

He also has a modified ntc but IMO due to cap hit and his play the ask for him would be high.

Schmidt has a NTC and I’m not sure he would waive. He might though.

Pionk has no trade protection and has 3 years of term and is a fixture in our top 4. He is similar to Heinola in that he plays the pp so from the Jets perspective moving Pionk may make the most sense.

Maybe we package Pionk up with a guy like Stanley to hold down the 3 ld spot behind chabot and Sanderson long term?

The Jets could do it and should explore it but what is the return? What can Ottawa do to help the jets?

Jets could use a top 6 c with 55 and pld’s future unsure. With Stutzle, Norris, Pinto you’re looking strong there…

I think we’d be open to deal if the price was right but what would the offer be for Pionk? For Pionk + Stanley/Samberg?

Don’t offer Formenton for obvious reasons.
