Monahan if he is sitting at a .5 ppg or more cpme tdl will likely command that at 50 percent retained. Lots pf teams are looking for 6'2 200 lb centres who can win draws, put up strong underlying numbers and be productive.

who knows if management is comfortable trading 1 of our only vet RHD

personally, i wouldn't hesitate if the offer was there and one of the vet LHD can figure it out on the right side

i agree, production has fallen a bit as he has had a revolving door of linemates the last few games... so long as he stays healthy and continues to produce at a minimum 0.5PPG clip the return should be okay (maybe not quite the Pageau 1+2+3 a few years back but who knows)

gotta find a balance of realism and optimism! Hughes has made some great trades but he doesn't have a lot to work with here, i do trust his negotiating though

The habs also have the luxury of a boatload of cap space this upcoming season they could theoretically offer out Edmundson at 50 percent retained which would net a massive return due to the cheap cap hit

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but they should split Caufield and Suzuki at some point at 5v5 just to spark the rest of the forwards. It's not normal that those two scored 50% of the goals

I mean, we'll see how the season shakes out between now and the deadline, but important to remember that Horvat/ROR/Toews would all *likely* be available if the deadline was today. That could potentially change over the next bit, but all 3 of those guys will command a heck of a lot more than Mony, and *should* likely water down the market for him. If someone offers a 2nd, take it and run.

Honestly, I hate to say it because (IMO) he's pretty "meh", but some big 'ol dummy might get swindled into foolishly giving up a 1st for Edmundson. Like the OP said....Chiarot 2.0 alert tears of joy

It won't be that much of a crazy idea when their OiSH% inevitably cools down.

Put Slafkovsky with Monahan to inflate his stats.

Eddy, Savard, and Monty may be valuable at the deadline.

Horvat im not worried about as if they do end up trading him that is much more likely a sign and trade scenario (van cant let him go for pending ufa price)

ROR is interesting because he seems to have fallen off a complete cliff across more than just points (sub 50 faceoffs for a guy who usually is among league leaders) so where he is come tdl may affect that but if he rebounds that likely does enough to get stl back in it (if the win their next game they are only 4 points out of a playoff spot the west is trash rn)

Toews the issue becomes the double retention. At his current cap hit even at 50 percent his cap hit is over 5. Paying a third party to take 2.5ish million in dead cap will NOT be cheap this year so that may scare off a few teams.

ROR: Underlying numbers are all pretty much in line with the career norms. Rough start, but *I think* it's more of a case of being unlucky vs. falling off a cliff. We'll see though.
Horvat: I mean, it may come down to Van just having to take the deadline return. Horvat holds the chips as to where he wants to sign next year...absolutely no need to extend if you're focused on testing the market. Vancouver will likely keep trying to extend him, but man, they're not in a great position for growth through even next year.
Toews: I don't see the double retention being an issue at all. His salary this year is $2.9 mil, meaning that around 1/4 of a 1/4 (1/8th for all of you mathematicians out there! Just simplifying that you're paying for 1/4 of a season, and picking up 1/4 of that salary...maybe I'm overexplaining tears of joy ) of that is all somebody would be picking up, which is just over $181k total.

Horvat will want the 8th year so he will play ball.

Toews the salary is irrelevant. Finding a team to eat 2.5 million in dead cap is the issue

It's the deadline...there'll be plenty of teams with the space built up that aren't in the race, and there's no reason that it's an issue unless that team is intent on using their 3 retention spots elsewhere.

I think Montreal would be wise to retain on Edmundson since it's only this year and next. That would potentially maximize the return as more teams will be in on him. I think that is your only trade chip that could possibly get a first back. I don't think Savard pulls a first anymore, I've always thought he was overrated to begin with. His term is likely not ideal for alot of teams, although if they retained on him as well, which they shouldn't for that long, could be a possibility.

Yes, please, I don't have either of them on my fantasy team.
