Trade Target Gavrikov

Description
The Kings need to not only bolster the LD position, but they need to address replacing Edler.

The Kings could take a gamble and try to acquire Gavrikov in free agency next year, but the Kings could use a player like him now. What would be the price if CBJ moves into selling?

Chychrun or bust, time to continue the Chychrun legacy in LA. Plus Arizona needs as much as help possible getting elite talent.

I think he wants to play here too, but that price is too steep.

He hasn't played yet and last season he was not nearly impressive, I can't see the Kings paying so much for 2.5 years of him. Time to start looking elsewhere.

He's likely in limbo until world juniors, he hasn't yet played past his 9 games.

Once he's playing the price is either going to seem reasonable or not, and I think he will get dealt sooner or later. Having him for 2.5 years is probably not the concern, I'm sure they can resign him. The issue is probably his health history. Imo they should give Turcotte+a 1st, I think the risk balances out lol.

Rob Blake will be shy to move his high picks now that Vilardi has broken out after being plagued with injury (similar to Turcotte). I think a Chychrun trade offer from LA will use Durzi as the prime piece + protected 1st + Walker (for cap room), and I'm not sure that will be enough.

After seeing the Chiarot trade last year, it’ll probably cost about something similar to get Gavrikov, there will likely be a bidding war as most teams likely can’t get a top 4 defenseman at 1.4mil (or less if they can find a 3rd team to retain).

Thanks, I think it's a fair response, too rich for the Kings, but had to ask.

With any LD guy that becomes available like Gavrikov or Soucy, they are probably costing a current 1st+3rd, and then there will be an acution after that. I think with Vilardi having broken out, and still having Byfield they could afford it, or maybe they should just trade Byfield+Walker (keep their 1st) for Chychrun.

Keeping Durzi as the 7th or over Edler wouldn't be a bad idea even if they play Clarke in Walker's spot.

I think it's unlikely Blake moves Byfield or Turcotte when their values are lower than where he drafted them, he's been rewarded with patience and I think he'll double down on it. I could be wrong, but if you look at his trade history he is pretty risk-averse and committed to his prospects generally.

The system looks chaotic when we try to play any line without a shutdown defenseman on each line, which means eventually 2LD (currently Durzi) will be paired with Matt Roy so that player should be an offensive-minded d-man (like Chychrun), last season the player who thrived the most with Matt Roy was Alex Edler who can play the shut-down role, but also has offensive upside.

I was looking for Gavrikov because he can play that same Edler role and eventually be the stay-at-home defenseman for Brandt Clarke, Sean Durzi, or Jordan Spence if we end up having to move Matt Roy to let Clarke take over 2RD.

It's a good problem to have but each of: Walker, Durzi, Spence, and Clarke look NHL-ready. But it's beginning to dictate the type of player we need at LD2 and if Matt Roy needs to be the future RD2 at the detriment of these player's career paths.

    Kupari + Spence + Madden + 2023 3rd + 2024 1st = Chychrun

Paying this price doesn’t hurt the current product, and truly doesn’t alter their future. Get it done Blake!

Kupari is thriving on the 3rd line, Spence looks to be the prospect to hold onto while Durzi will become the one for sale, everything else sure.

But 2.5 years of Chychrun, and you know he'll want a massive payday after that. Is this really the best use of assets, when his price continues to stay the same while his play has declined?

I have a feeling when all is said and done, the consensus is going to be ASU waited too long to trade him.

Can’t account for what the trade packages they may have been offered are, sure, but can’t say his value has stayed high the past season and a half.

The asking price would be a 23 first plus a 3rd or comparable prospect. I could probably be talked down to just the 23 first but that’s where the line would be drawn for me.

Their ask was too high in the 1st place, I think no one wqs bitting at their current ask then they raised it at the TDL after the Chariot trade.

I do agree though that if they don't trade him once he plays a few good games they probably get much less than they were hoping for, and getting a good roster player (cap component) that could be flipped would be important in increasing the overall return. Someone like Puljujarvi who lost a ton of value, he's good defensively apparently and I'm sure the offense will sort itself out in Arz.

I can't wait to see him get back from injury, so that a trade could happen but maybe they hold him until trade deadline if they don't get what they want.

So many prospects, not enough spots. Kupari has played well, but Kings have Byfield and (hopefully) Turcotte in the wings. Spence looked great last year, but Kings still have Doughty, Roy, Clarke, Durzi, Walker, Grans…

Sell high, right now boosting the value of Durzi and Walker makes way for cheaper and better players in Clarke and Spence. High skill players need to be given time.

CBJ has a glaring need for a big center who can fit the timeline. Also has potentially a TON of cap room with Werenski being out for the season.

Feels like Byfield would be a perfect fit for CBJ. Just wonder what the price would be. Extended Gavrikov + something else?

I’d have interest in a Byfield trade. Issue is, we are currently on track to end up with a Bedard/Fantilli regardless.

Not fun, but stay the course.
