Quoting: GMBL
With any LD guy that becomes available like Gavrikov or Soucy, they are probably costing a current 1st+3rd, and then there will be an acution after that. I think with Vilardi having broken out, and still having Byfield they could afford it, or maybe they should just trade Byfield+Walker (keep their 1st) for Chychrun.
Keeping Durzi as the 7th or over Edler wouldn't be a bad idea even if they play Clarke in Walker's spot.
I think it's unlikely Blake moves Byfield or Turcotte when their values are lower than where he drafted them, he's been rewarded with patience and I think he'll double down on it. I could be wrong, but if you look at his trade history he is pretty risk-averse and committed to his prospects generally.
The system looks chaotic when we try to play any line without a shutdown defenseman on each line, which means eventually 2LD (currently Durzi) will be paired with Matt Roy so that player should be an offensive-minded d-man (like Chychrun), last season the player who thrived the most with Matt Roy was Alex Edler who can play the shut-down role, but also has offensive upside.
I was looking for Gavrikov because he can play that same Edler role and eventually be the stay-at-home defenseman for Brandt Clarke, Sean Durzi, or Jordan Spence if we end up having to move Matt Roy to let Clarke take over 2RD.
It's a good problem to have but each of: Walker, Durzi, Spence, and Clarke look NHL-ready. But it's beginning to dictate the type of player we need at LD2 and if Matt Roy needs to be the future RD2 at the detriment of these player's career paths.
