Agree. I think we would only pay this price if an extension is in place, and that would be extremely unlikely because it would mean Staal is out or has to take a substantial discount (even more than he is going to, bc he isn't getting 6mil again). We wouldn't do that to our captain mid-season.

Easy solution. Only give Schenn 1.1m instead of 2.2m.

The issue with this is that the Canes' first forward call-up right now is Jack Drury and he is good enough to be in the show on his own merits. If they wanted extra C help, they'd just use Drury. He's technically on a better goal pace than Horvat I guess in a way? Either way, this kind of price for a rental is never going to be something Carolina is interested in. Maybe someone like Garland would be of interest, but not so much Horvat
