Description

Banking on the four million dollar increase.
Going to be a cap crunch if Avs do make a run for a 2C. I think Toews is as good as gone if we do make that run too, I see Yzerman jumping at the chance to add Toews as well and then sign him long term.

This is all speculative and just something the explore if Avs don't wake up by February when Landeskog is back. Be interesting to see what Sakic and company decide to do come this TD and summer.

You basically traded Toews and Newhook for Horvat. That’s not good. And that 3rd pairing of MacDermid and Hagg would be the worst pairing in the NHL. There is a reason COL plays MacDermid primarily at F because he is easier to hide. Honestly COL is better off rolling the dice with Newhook, and bridging him and Byram.

Horvat at 7.5M and Byram on a bridge at around 4M allows you to keep Toews, and then you can move Girard for cap space.

Detroit is awash with excellent LD prospects and isn't going to trade for anyone at that position and especially not one that only has one year left before becoming UFA.

This is a brutal lineup. You have MacDermid as an every night defenseman and are also relying on a league minimum guy as your #6 D. And that bottom 6 looks really weak. The top two lines can’t play 30 minutes a night for 82 games.

Horvat and Byram are both overpaid here.

I agree that Toews is the trade piece to be shipped out but don’t think Detroit is the right trade partner.
