Description
Bunting and Kerfoot need to be replaced in the top six. Trade Kerfoot and drop Bunting down to the third line. The Leafs need size, toughness and grit to compliment the skill in the top six. With Muzzin on LTIR, it allows the Leafs to add a player or two who make more than league min.

Montreal is not in the business of giving players away and especially not to the Leafs. The going rate on such a unique player like Anderson is a 1st + 3rd, if you don't want to pay that then Montreal will keep Anderson as they are happy with what he brings to the lineup.

With his cap hit and term what team will cough up a 1st? Most playoff contending teams can't afford him and his term is too long for Montreal to retain. Frankly, this offer is an overpay but the Leafs are desperate right now.

is there some deadline for the habs to move Anderson that i'm unaware about. I get why the leafs want him but Montreal doesnt need to free up cap space and i see no upside to make that deal when you can just keep anderson.

The upside is you get two picks to draft players who can help the Habs three years from now when Montreal completes its rebuild.

You can come back when you have a better offer. Montreal can help you unloading a few contracts to make room for Anderson, but it would also come at a price.

Montreal is in a position to be patient. Toronto is not.

I think you're missing the fact that Montreal doesn't want to move Anderson. You argue Anderson isn't worth a 1st. I agree. But if a team doesn't want to move a player you want to acquire, you have to over pay. For Anderson, that's easily a 1st+

None of these moves guarantee the top players will start playing to their capabilities.

No, but it's a change. And sometimes it works. The bigger risk is doing nothing and icing the same 12 guys every game. I think Dubas needs to be a little bold and inject some fresh blood into his team.

Fair point. Although, these past 4 games its really starting to feel like Keefe has lost the room.

Habs don't even answer the phone for Anderson unless it starts with a 1st and you're still likely adding to that.

a late 2nd and a third are not nearly worth what Anderson is currently for the habs. We have plenty of picks and several candidates to be moved at the deadline, there will be plenty of assets to accumulate dont need to take a low ball anderson offer, and certainly not one that helps the Leafs.

Vancouver makes that trade if there aren’t any cap issues associated with it. The Canucks are right up against the cap and I believe Kerfoot makes 300k more than Pearson.

Its not really that hard to understand. Montreal are not moving Andy without a first. Whether a team would offer that for him is another story, but MTL aren't moving him for less than that.

Anderson is a 6'3 227 lbs fast power forward on pace for 27 goals this year. A team WILL offer a 1st and even more if MTL were to take a bad contract back.
