He absolutely is outscoring this season - he's 6-3 on-ice goals so far at 5v5. It's a tiny sample size, but when viewed against the backdrop of the past decade of results, it's more of the same.

In 8 of the past 9 seasons, and again so far this year, Barrie's teams have had a better 5v5 GF% when he was on the ice compared to when he was on the bench. That's a "net positive" player, whether you chose to accept it or not.

Here's how much better Barrie's teams have been with him than without him:

20132014 COL: +9.58 GF%
20142015 COL: +9.91
20152016 COL: +3.05
20162017 COL: +2.96
20172018 COL: +5.26
20182019 COL: +4.73
20192020 TOR: -1.60
20202021 EDM: +4.77
20212022 EDM: +6.27
20222023 EDM: +18.84

Its great that you believe that outscoring is the measure of effective 5v5 play and not more a measure of the quality of the team and usage. Edmonton should keep him in that case. Because I doubt any other team is going to value him the way you describe him.

That's an insane spend on a 4C. Montreal should take that and run.

I get that you're PC approved, but he doesn't work for the Oilers anymore and hasn't foe quite a while. Time to tune into the new administration, friend.

From my early research Evans is a PK phenom and very fast. Who is to say Puljujarvi is back next year? Evans' numbers were very similar to Warren foegele last year at less cost.

Less cost? Foegele cost Bear, who is currently worth a mid-round pick. You're proposing to pay much more than that for Evan's.

A decade of overwhelmingly positive contributions. Yes, I'd say that's worth something. It's "Rel" numbers I'm looking at, which effectively is comparing the player results to the team results. It's not a measure if team success at all. "Relative to Teammates."

I.e. someone with a 55 GF% on a team with a 60 GF% would show up as minus-5.
Someone with a 45 GF% on a team with a 40 GF% would show up as a plus-5.

So it eliminates your critique, which was quality of team. It actually penalizes players who are on good teams, because they're being compared to players who have better results. It's easy to get great numbers relative to teammates when they suck. I mean, look at the early Avs results for Barrie - those teams were pretty bad.

"Edmonton should keep him in that case" - yes, I agree.

dont see any logically reason MTL would move Evans where the main piece coming back is Barrie. Edmonton can be scouting, but Barrie is a 3rd for evans would be a mistake for montreal.

Quoting: LIRIK
Barrie is a small 31 years old 3rd pairing D with alot of defensive issues on a 4.5M contract.

How would you feel about a trade involving Pulji for Evans?

I'm not sure what you mean, coming back to Edmonton?
Like: Pulji for Evans + 4th? or the other way?

i think thats a tleast something mtl would consider over a Barrie deal, that being said Evans is great value on his current contract and i dont see any rush to move him unless its an offer they have to take.

Skinner has no reason to sign for that cheap, he will demand a lot compared to what Campbell is making

I think Skinner will play 30 games this year. The contract comparables would be something like Dan Vladar. Goalies don't get paid that fast. His contract after that would need to be 5 million.

He doesn't want to be a backup, he will either sign for starter value or accept an offer sheet with another team. Campbell is making backup money

I think its a good offer for the Habs though, Evans has a great contract but it doesn't seem like he will be on that deal in MTL's upcoming window of contention (I would assume 2-3 years from now).
Pulji is a great replacement for the wingers leaving next season for you guys, plus he would get more ice time in MTL which would be good for him production wise.

I also don't watch MTL too closely, I may be off on their need for a player like Pulji but I think he would be a great fit for you.

Pulji at his full potential would be a great addition, but if hes putting up 35-45 points hes just another winger, Evans plays a great 200 foot game and is one of our best penalty killers, With evans theres no real fluctuation, hes just steady and gives you consistancy but hes never going to go out and score 25 goals in a season. My main thought is we have a few highly offensive wingers coming up the pipeline so may be best to wait, like most of the trades that are suggested on here for MTL the value fits but they are in no rush to pull the trigger Evans has probably another 4-6 years of his prime at least.
