Would imagine its pretty hefty. 5x 4M retention is not everyday phun.
And in Ottawas case Zaitsev is regarded a capdump so it even adds to it.
In any case players/cap needs to go back to SJ,as no team remotely contending has room otherwise to fit in even that remaining 7.5M.
And others quite honestly should not even concider trading for him.
Buffalo would have the funds but no need because of Dahlin.
Real question is: what team is lacking an elite PP thriving dman, and otherwise has enough depth so that Eriks horrible defensive skills wont hurt then too much? (He needs an Lindell/Slavin/Pelech to carry his mistakes in a perfect world)
Cant really see a fit if Detroit or Winnipeg dont see themself contending in the coming 1-5 years period. They got the need, Detroit even some capspace and assets.

imo its a first and prospect others will disagree but 7.5 mil for Karlsson over the last few years is a little overpay, but factoring in his current play makes it fair if theres a BAD contract coming back. My suggestion for VAN is a 2023 Pick and Danilla Klimovich as the base, my suggestion for a team like VAN is Myers and than cap rises next year and it makes it much more lucrative.
My current frame work is:
Myers (TO SJS)
Woo (TO ARIZONA)
NYR 2023 4TH (TO ARIZONA)
2023 1st (TO SJS)
Klimovich (TO SJS)
2023 4th (TO SJS)
EK65 (7.5mil) (1.75 from ARI and 2.25 from SJS)
Chmelevski (TO ARIZONA)
VGK 2024 4TH (TO ARIZONA)
I think SJS needs more but its a start for the conversation.
If it was Ottawa I'm not leaving without Ridly Grieg. Ottawa cant afford to trade Pinto any team asking for Pinto is blind to their roster.
On the retention, I don’t think you necessarily have to pay much extra for it like you would for PKane, because EK65 is not worth his current cap hit. So retention simply raises his value from negative to a certain break-even point, and at the end of the day, 4mil retention for San Jose is in reality 7.5mil cap savings lol. I do think the break-even point is probably somewhere higher though. Like, giving him away for free would probably be somewhere around 2-2.5mil retention, so a 1st+prospect makes sense for 4mil retention.
On the fit in Ottawa, I’ve seen a lot of discussion about it on Sens twitter, but I feel like it’s not the right fit and that’s just nostalgia. Ottawa would ideally want someone younger to fit better with the core, and what they really need is a stable defensive presence. Zub being injured really casts a spotlight on a gaping hole even with him in the lineup. Sanderson is solid defensively but Hamonic and Zaitsev are dead-weight. Ottawa doesn’t lack puck-movers (Chabot is one of the most elite transition players in the game, Brannstrom is having a resurgence and is a slick passer that is excellent on the PP even though he’s not really being used there, and Sanderson’s just good at everything lol) so EK65 wouldn’t even be that much of an improvement in that regard. I just don’t see the point. I’d rather target a guy like Connor Murphy, who will also likely be cheaper to acquire.
