Cap space is king this year in the NHL. Even if it is only 1.8M. Some teams are going to value it more than getting slightly better trade assets.

Watch David Savard will get traded for a 1st round pick this TDL or the next. No clue why Carolina didnt just wait it out on Bear as teams have more cap room at the TDL, they could have gotten a better return for Bear, much better!

Raanta was worth the same according to some but its more in line with timing and finding the right partner. Clearly, the Canes didnt know how to milk Bear's value like Kent Hughes did at last year's TDL or the Toffoli deal. You dont just not play a guy then tell teams you are willing to trade. Play him, boost the value and wait on an offer like Hughes did with Lehkonen and Toffoli, neither would have been traded had the offer not been so high!

Bear isn't worth his salary but at least has room for improvement. Wideman is only gonna get worse.

I just like how Bergevin was saying you never have enough depth in defense. A 5th for an RFA 7th defensemen is nothing when you have 3x4th +2x5th.

I think it's a pretty fair deal, got a draft pick for a cap dump and I don't see much in Pederson. I wish Bear well but this helps us out when Patches comes out and we clear some cap room.

He's certainly gonna get every opportunity for ice time in VAN. They probably should've addressed their Defense over the summer, but it's not too late.

Totally agree on the need for a first pair defenceman. I don't think Demelo fits the profile.

And really not sure Dubas would get the green light to spend the high value futures required to get such a player considering he is on the last year of his contract. GMs going all in just to not loose their job is usually disastrous.
