Are Ylonen or Kidney a top ten prospect in the Habs system? Dadanov and Drouin are weird pieces to send to the Sharks, they could find 30 other teams that would give a better deal without having to take on an expensive ineffective player. The first is the only valuable piece in this deal really.

Actually we can, we have roughly 24 mil to resign 3-4 players. Caufield and Meier would cost about 16-18 Mil, Harris maybe 3 mil brining the total to about 21 mil and That is without trading anyone. Now it also means we trade or let Monahan and Drouin walk. The only other players up for extension is Pezzetta

Both are B prospects, Kidney is on pace for his second straight 100 point season in the QMJHL. The Sharks would need to take back money on from almost any team they trade with, and I did say we could retain half on either of the expiring players. I doubt that the Sharks could get that little cap coming back from many other teams. Also without an extension Meier's only has 1 more year of team control so is pretty much a rental anyway. Maybe a slightly better prospect like Barron but I would list the top 10 prospects as Slafkovsky, Guhle, Harris, Mesar, Hutson, Beck, Roy, Barron, Kidney and Farrell (not in any particular order) with Ylonen and Mailloux rounding out the top 12.

Dadonov holds negative value at this point, so that means a prospect or pick to move him on top of what is already on the table. In my opinion.

it's basically a Tatar to Montreal add on, not really any value either way just cap purposes. BTW that was the basic model for my proposal, Patches at the time was 27 and returned Suzuki (1st) + 2nd + Tatar basically this package but I added a 3rd as well.

remember the 6 millions QO for KK ?? If habs offer 9,5% for 8 years like Suzuki with a salary cap at 86 500 000, this could be : 8 217 500 x 8 or : 65 740 000 ( 10M + 10M + 10M + 10M + 6,435M + 6,435M + 6,435M + 6,435M ). Paying is prime time at a reasonable price while downgrading when closer to his retirement age.

Meier would be amazing in MTL, the ideal player to put with Caufield IMO.

I wanted them to trade for him before he broke out (while the sharks were in turmoil with bad contracts). He would cost a lot right now, I don't think this is enough.

Tatar >> Dadanov. Tatar was just acquired from Detroit by Vegas for a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd... yes he was traded for cap purposes and he wasn't a fit in Vegas during their playoff run but Tatar still had real value unlike Dadanov.

Suzuki > the lower of MTL's 1st round picks. Suzuki was a promising prospect and drafted 13th overall.

2nd = Ylonen or Kidney.

Also Meier > Pacioretty, who was about to be a UFA which hurt MTL's leverage while Meier is RFA.

As much as I'd love Meier, I think if MTL is patient they might be able to land a big free agent which could be better asset management for a team that is rebuilding / re-tooling. If he could be had for your proposed cost I would do it but I think he is worth much more.

I know Hughes has already spoken about how he wants to be a player in free agency, with his experience as an agent and St. Louis being a desirable coach to play for I could see him waiting until the offseason to see what options are available before trading draft equity.

Edit:
If negotiations with Meier or Dubois are ongoing after free agency (which players usually do hold out for a bit now) then this option would still be available in the offseason and it wouldn't require SJ taking on Dadanov.

Thanks for the feedback, I really like the idea of getting Meier cause he would be awesome on that line. I agree with your overall assessment and will try to adjust the trade better, I think we have the capitol and need to make this work, even if it is an offseason trade.

So I was going to say that SJ is probably the last possible place that would take Mailloux with his history but then they for some stupid reason took a chance on Kane given his history. Still I think they'd avoid him.

He is the player most likely SJ would not trade for. that history would not play well in Northern California
