Pontus Holmberg and Alex Steeves dont seem too far off either. If Kerfoot walks this offseason, run something like this next year:

Bunting* - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Nylander
Knies* - Kampf* - Jarnkrok
Steeves - Holmberg* - ZAR

* - Contract extension / recipient

It's amazing how much Leaf fans hate their own. Kerfoot is playing well, but somehow a college player who may play a few weeks in the regular season is the hero. Same with Engvall....what has Knies done to bump Engvall out of the lineup?

Knies would probs be here by the TDL. And by the TDL I have 0 idea what they will look like. I do think pieces will be moved out to make room for someone (Kane) but its anyone's guess

Maybe we see a Chycrun trade cause Muzzin cant play anymore. Maybe we see them go get Reimer cause Murray is done. Still good ways away so im good. Still i do think Knies will get his chance once the NCAA season ends

Engvall forgets he's 6'5. Knies actually uses his size

Engvall scored 15 goals last season in the NHL....Knies none...Knies hasn't made one body check in the NHL Hey, I hope Knies has long NHL career, but geez no reason to think he is going to be difference next April. But as I suggested,Leaf fans hate their own.

Most of the time they have every reason to, including this time.

Oh yeah...six points in five games. Burn it down. I tend to think many Leaf fans think the highly paid "stars" are so magnificent but there bottom enders can be replace with bottom enders from lousy teams.

Knies uses his size and he has thrown some big hits in the NCAA. I want a guy that uses his size over someone that probably won't be on this team next season

Lol, you've made so many threads and comments about how Robertson is too small and weak and they need to trade him asap.

I think the hope is that he does enough to warrant a spot and in my opinion, Bunting isn't a lock for permanent spot on the top line. A better trigger man with a big frame could find a really nice home there. If Knies shows well, how awesome would that be?

I agree with you that many needlessly hate their own but at the same time, it's happened for other teams, young guys step in late in the season and hit the ground running. How huge of a boost would that be? And if he doesn't force his spot then he's good depth with him learning and practicing with NHL players. I hope he pans out.

I think it's fair to say Dubas has been very good at finding cheap and effective depth. Hyman was let go and Bunting scored more than he ever did. It's pretty clear Matthews, Marner, JT and Nylander can make things happen with almost anyone. If you can get great value from lesser known guys who have untapped potential or just cheaper guys that fit a specific role, why wouldn't you?

Knies is the perfect style of player to complement Matthews and Marner... can't wait for the future seasons smile

Engvall is not the player he was last year, every game he has played so far has had multiple glaring mistakes. If he has had multiple glaring mistakes I would rather give his spot to a kid you would expect make those mistakes while providing more in the physicality department and finesse department.

I think that's a big exaggeration. Engvall hasn't looked as good as he did last year yet but he missed most of training camp. He's a week behind but will get there. I am not worried about him.

It's not an exaggeration, and I never said anything about him missing camp. What I said was accurate, he has made multiple glaring mistakes in every game.

You don't forget how to play smart hockey because you missed 7 preseason games.
