Manson probably has Montreal on his NTC, he wouldn't waive to go to a rebuilding team when he can be on a contender. Aside from that alone, Avs decline since Manson is locked up for multiple years as our 2RD, and Dvorak hasn't impressed me.

Yeah Josh Manson isn't waiving for a rebuilding Montreal team, Pretty sure all Canadian teams are on his no trade list. At least they were before.

I mean, Tampa did the same thing though, right? They just did it...better...

I'm not even sold on Florida having a *major* collapse this year though. Pretty confident that they'll just now use that LTIR space that they're accruing to fill in the holes. I'd imagine we can expect to see guys like Sourdif, Noel and Denisenko being offered up. Not great, but there's still a bit left in the cupboard.

I doubt they do either but all the unprotected 1sts traded away is scary haha

To me Denisenko and Noel are essentially throw ins without much value at this point, not much different than BOG in my eyes

Sourdif wouldn't be bad but not as the main piece imo

Didn't they do it year by year though? Except the Hagel trade.

I thought GMs would have learned from the Erik Karlsson and Matt Duchene trades that you have to protect your future years' picks because the league can change so quickly.

Habs likely don't do it either. They need more mobility on the blueline and they already have Edmundson and Savard for 2+ years, so adding a Manson type of defensemen is redundant.

Seven! Long time no see!

You're 100% not wrong. Between that and overpaying for 30+ year old UFA's, some things never change tears of joy

I mean, we all tried to tell Zito that moving a 1st+ for Chiarot was a huge bogey, but the man didn't listen.

On the bright side, Mahura hasn't looked bad down there so far.

Losing Mahura hurt me tears of joy I think I've always been the highest on him out of anyone of us Duck fans

Hoping to see him succeed in FLA

Sometimes I just think about - what if Bergevin thought the Canadiens were good enough after the SCF run that he didn't feel the need to protect the pick in the Dvorak trade?

Absolutely. Imagine Carolina doesn't OS Kotkaniemi, and that protection suddenly pushes the pick to the Habs '23 1st...

Honestly though, I think you guys end up picking somewhere around 8th OA, and the Florida pick ends up in that playoff bubble zone, ie. 20thish.

I'm not sold that they'll be thiiiiis bad, but they might struggles and have to fight more than expected to reach playoffs this year. That defense is really awful. Staal, Forsling, Mahura, Gudas, Carlsson, Kiersted might be the worst defense of the league...

Also, yes having Ekblad on the LTIR frees up some cap space, but they don't have any value (picks or prospects) to trade for quality assets. Unless they fill their holes with some cap dump vets, I don't see them getting quality players for Denisenko/Noel/Heponiemi. Sourdif and Samoskevich being still young, they might be more attractive, but still they aren't A prospects.

Yeah, I don't think they neccessarily *have* to go out and get the top guys on the market to remain competitive, which is where those guys can actually be potential assets in trades. I'd be looking to the Western conference to try to find a guy or two...And honestly, I'd be hesistant to trade from my forward depth if I was the Panthers, but a guy like Sam Bennett could be attractive if you're a team looking for help up front in a pure hockey trade.
