Description
See Bettmans comments on potential cap rise.

Even with a $4m rise the cap is still pretty tight and one of the LHD's likely needs to be moved for a 2C or middle 6 forward(s).

Agree with your comments.

Girard on 3rd pair is probably underused and it hurts his trade value.
Thats alot of youth and high expectations on 3rd and 4th line, I'd be suprised if 2 or even 3 of those 5 youngsters delivered/developed

Girard probably gets moved but it'd be interesting the return. For example: (And PHI doesn;t do this as they are set on defense for the near and far future) but it terms of a maybe return, maybe a Scott Laughton, Tippett, Zamula and picks kind of return, which might give a young 3LD, 3RW and a good two way 3C/3LW in Laughton and 2024 FLA 1st kind of deal. It certainly fills out the roster nicely and with youth and leaves cap space. Or a Girard for Nylander kind of swap?

I've toyed with the idea of Nylander but, Beds would hate him as he is afriad of the corners and contact

What do you think happens with the trio of Toews Byram and Girard next year? One of them moved and if so who? Just rock with all three?

the description says one of the three has to be moved. bsaed on how the roster is set up girard playing third pair is terrible for him so id think he'd be traded for a solid top 6 forward (garland maybe but they dont need ld)

Newhooks play thus far hasn’t justified a penny more than 2.5mil on a short bridge deal.

I’m of the mindset to trade Toews. His value hasn’t been higher and COL won’t be able to afford to resign him. And it naturally opens up a spot for Byram on the top pair and Girard can return to his spot on the second pair. It just makes the most sense.

Guys like Kaut, Ranta, Meyers and Maltsev need to step it up as they must fill these holes in the lineup.

Yeah the orginal poster is correct, it'd be nice to fill multiple holes with moving Girard or get a quality top 6 forward in exchange, but very rarely do you get a one for one at that talent level/age.

Newhook looks good, but if he was 3C and they could move Girard for a 2C, thats probably the desire. But unlikely. To me you move Girard for probably a nice third liner with youth and upside and replenish the system with a pick or two and a ready now youngster to go in at 3LD. (I think I suggested a Tippett, Zamula, Laughton + kind of deal.) which still leaves cap space for a quality wing (as I dont think most of Sampo, Bowers, Maltsev, Kaut will deliver).

The Avs will be able to fill some bottom 6 roles with Vets looking for cap runs on the cheap, and the 3rd pairing is like wise going to get the discount treatment. Girard moved is the obvious answer but not might be the right answer.

It’s been 3 games, I’ve been way more underwhelmed by ERod, but you have banner night a bat**** road game the next day and Minnesota, yeah I’ve been a bit disappointed in his production but Bednar is continuing to shield his minutes need to remove the training wheels imo.

ERod has been trash so far. Maybe some 3rd line minutes to feast on weaker lines to get him going.

Newhooks been underachieving since mid-playoffs last year (if you recall the healthy scratches). Barely any consistent flashes of high danger offensive chances. He’s skating hard and fast in circles not accomplishing anything lol

Only thing that may save me from getting heat for this is the thread is kinda old, but here goes.

J Toews just became more attractive. The team can get him this year and run a line of:

Landeskog/Lehkonen, Toews, Nichushkin

They can match up against any top line in the league and even win the battle on a lot of nights. It wouldn't be cost prohibitive and allows Newhook to develop at C without as much pressure.

The reason is becomes more attractive now is that J Toews may not be a pure rental. He could stick around for another year or two if the fit is there. The hope would be that Newhook finds his game and forces him down sooner than later. But if not, he could still be a nice addition.

Toews sucks. His drop in play is a significant reason why CHI sucks now.

It's not that simple. His health issues clearly hindered his game. He already looks much better early in the season. I'd swap Compher plus for him (so long as the plus isn't too crazy) without much of a second thought.

If he continues to play like this Id be interested at the deadline. With retained salary (or even double retention) they wouldnt need to move Compher the other way, I think moving picks/prospects for him instead would be a more intriguing package for CHI anyway

Yep if they get Toews as a rental and can sign him to a super cheap 1 year deal that would be amazing

. It’s pretty simple. During the cups he played like top 25 player in the league one of the 3 best players on his team. Last year he was what 7th or 8th, the year before he didn’t play, the year before that maybe 4th. You have to go back to 18-19 where he was indisputably a top 3 player on CHI. Championship teams get worse as supporting talent gets taken away, you start to suck when your star players start to suck. That’s the nature of championship team. Toews isn’t any good anymore at a top 6 role, that’s obvious, someone might be dumb enough to pay for past production I would hope the Avs front office isn’t that foolish

Yeah....9 points in 11 games including 7 goals....Toews is terrible!!! LMAO tears of joy

Do you not know the health situation he had and why the first 2/3rds of last season he struggled getting his game back after a year off? Were you aware of the back injury at the 2nd of 2017 that nagged him the following season. Context matters, drop the poor narrative
