I think it was an old roster I never posted, didn;t realize until after I posted that I thought Sandin would get 1.9mil.

This trade makes zeros sense for the Leafs; prob Flyers too but I don’t care. Willy is a game breaker, why trade him for spare parts when team is 100% in win now mode?

At the moment:

the Leafs dont have cap space for liljegren, and if they move Holl or Engvall, they dont have space for a 13th forward or 7th dman, with no waiver exempt players.

they are the 2nd oldest team in the league (according to some sources), they have 6-7 guys over 30 and just 2 under the age of 25 (and both of them are in the 4th pro season), this brings in 2 "mid-aged" guys and a young guy and a 1st rounder

Spare parts? IMO, the leafs score plenty, but they lack quality depth, physicality and two way play in their forward corps after the first 5 forwards. Leafs could use a physical tough guy, to dress occassionally, who can skate and isn;t past it like clifford or simmonds = macewen
leafs lack physicality and two way forwards = laughton is a 30-35pt (on a bad team that cant score), feisty, 3 position guy, two way player, proven leader and playoff experience and allows kerfoot to play on 2nd line
Tippett could be a 30 goal scorer in the NHL, maybe not, but hes good sized, can skate and is a good shooter
a 1st rounder

But if you see them as spare parts and like the team age and not being able to ice an entire roster, go to town. None of them would replace Nylander's production, but collectively and cap wise, I think its a better TEAM

They do have a waiver exempt player, several even but the big one is NICK ROBERTSON, Leafs don’t even consider this

True they have under contract waiver exempt guys, but theres not a single waiver exempt player on the roster currently, Robertson is in the AHL, but theres no cap space to bring one up, they cant even activate liljegren without moving somebody.

Your points are valid re cap and squad size limitations but trading a game breaker like Willy is not the solution, imo. The most important parts of core are not old (Matty, Marner, Willy) so age is a red herring; this team - built around those guys - will be competitive for 5-10 more years. That’s the beauty of having 2 superstars + one star player in their mid 20’s. Very few teams can say that
Not sure how they will fit Lili - LTIR, waivers, trade but for sure Willy needs to stay; I think he’s good for 35-40 goals this year 🤞💪

Would love to get Laughton for some sandpaper. Made a similar trade but also had Konecny as well. The team the leafs have right now will get pushed around by TB or Florida and lose in the first round again.
