Two nobodies being moved along with a 2nd to dump the larger contract. Meh

It's too bad dickinson hasn't worked out in VAN as I do think there is a set of skills there that could be useful in the right system. That bet along with the 2nd works this trade out in Chicago's favour I think.

But I find it very funny that VAN needed to pay more to dump him than they did to acquire him.

1.35 million cap for a 2024 2nd basically even the term is the same on the deals. Paid a third to get him in from Dallas to pay a second to get him out. That sucks for Vancouver

Stillman can play and the Canucks are weaker on D than they are with forwards.

People overrate draft picks. A second round draft pick only has a 70% chance of playing a single game in the NHL and a 1/3 chance of playing 100 or more games. There's a good chance Stillman will play more games for the Canucks than that pick will play in the NHL in total.

Would you want stillman over Dermott or Burroughs?

So VAN trades a 3rd round pick in 2021 to acquire Dickinson only to trade him away with a 2024 2nd rounder.

Nice 👍

Another way to look at it as VAN traded a 2nd and a 3rd round pick for 62 games of Jason Dickinson.

Lucky for VAN they have such a deep prospect pool to shell out these picks.

While true, I don't think Stillman is going to provide you with any WAR. He's just a bottom 2 Dman body out there. Good enough to play, not really noticeable and replaceable.

Deep prospect pool or not, 2nd and 3rd rounders are far from guaranteed NHLers, and like I said, every multi-year contractual commitment above league minimum is a risk when pen is put to paper

And without your 2014 2nd round pick you would not have Thatcher Demko. So pick your poison.

We just lost Myers for about a month, so that's an important factor here.

Yes. He's part of the 34% to play 100 or more games. I could counter with "Boston's three 2015 first round draft picks" and try and claim draft picks are worthless.

But when judging a trade, you have to look at the odds and not pick the best or worst case scenario.
