No way Ottawa can afford his extension on top of Cats, and Zub's. If they dont get Chychrun then they may come knocking for Severson as a rental but moving out Harmonic is counterproductive.

Im confident that JBD will not be available for a pending UFA

If it’s for Chychrun, Severson or Weegar, I’m sure they would let him go.

They cant afford to extend Severson or Weegar without letting Zub walk which is completely counterproductive because then they need those cheaper RD contracts like JBD and Lassi. They have lots of forward prospects instead

If they move Zaitsev, they would be fine.

Chabot $8m -- (new guy at $6m)
Sanderson $925k -- Zub $4m
Kelven/Brannstrom -- Thomson

It’s a pretty inexpensive blueline.

Zaitsev will 100% be moved regardless in any scenario here. That still makes it extremely tight even if we are greedy with the 2 RD UFA signings.

Not sure fitting 4-6 players with 1.6M cap space is realistic

Sign Pinto to smaller deal
Let Formenton walk, call up Greig
Bring DeBrincat in Stutzle/Brady number

Where would that get us? $4 million for 5 players?

Agree it’s tight, but they should add a defensive piece and I think they can squeeze it in.

Formention is a restricted free agent and will almost certainly get 2M (if he ever plays again). The way Pinto has been playing it is very hard to justify him being worth less than that, maybe 1.5M minimum if he only performs averagely. Cat is 100% getting over 9M, Barzal basically just signed his deal for him

I originally put Zaitsev in the deal, but he had two years left. I figure Hams would have been the better fit because of the expiring contract.

I don’t think Barzal would be a comp for DeBrincat. And just because his QO is $9 million, it doesn’t set the floor of multi-year extension at $9 million. I would guess something in mid-to-high 8’s.

(Also, people were saying $9m for Forseberg, $10m for Laine, $11 for Gaudreau…)

DeBrincat sits 8th league wide in goals since entering the league in 17/18. He is an excellent play driver with an elite shot. Certainly a better player than Laine. He is not as good as Tkachuk but not too far off either. Only way they get him for less than 9M is if it's a 5 year deal or less

I would bet a lot that the Sens value JBD and Ostapchuk comfortably more than a 1st + 2nd

I was interested in the OP proposal but this, not as much

JBD will probably become the Sens defensive specialist on RD and a guy they will need once Zub is gone (IMO, after his next extension that might be just 4 years)

Ostapchuk is poised to have a huge breakout season (like he did in past WHL playoffs). Once Sanderson/Pinto/Greig graduate, he could be the Sens best prospect as early as next year.

I bet the Devils would like JBD and Ostapchuk more than the picks too!
Its why I like that package.

JBD, Boucher, pick maybe? (assuming extension, all other roster/cap requirements met)

Like we talked in the other thread... I don't think they can afford to move Boucher... We're too close from the 2021 draft still

It would be ALREADY admitting that this was a very stupid pick

Imagine trading JBD + a 10th OA pick + pick for a guy who is UFA to be

The only reason you propose it is because Boucher has very little value in reality

Trading him now would be a PR disaster
