Holland said Broberg's spot on the team was his to lose, and he lost it to Ryan Murray. His skated looked off, usually he glided around the ice with ease but not anymore, he said he added 12 pounds of muscle in the offseason and people are thinking maybe the added weight is affecting he movement

Bouchard not taking over #1 Power Play and getting dropped to 3rd pair along with Broberg not stepping up to earn the roster spot has to put Edmonton on trade-alert for defensive help mid-season, no?

Bouchard gets rotated with Barrie on the #1 a lot and when Barrie starts on the #1 PP the first line change is all ways Barrie for Bouchard, Bouchard should still be on the 2nd pairing with Kulak as there has been nothing to prove any different. they should be looking for defensive help regardless as that is 100% their biggest problem.

Absolute steal, but could hurt if Dahls wants to play LD. Cause then Samuelsson is immediately the 3LD.. Most people don't know who this is lol so the contract chat is hilarious. I am a believer he is a mini slavin type player. Not slavin but like that. Sabres must believe that him and dahlin are going to be the longterm top pair.

Slavin but without the offense. Still seems like a bit of a reach for a guy who played 54 career games

Needed to ask you Bobcat. Has Yegor been otherwise decent ontop of his shot?
Am thinking about adding him in our finnish version of fantasyhockey.
Problem is I am worried about him being played 7-8mins if he doesn't get going on PP2 from the start.

This is essentially a cheaper Marino contract. Samuelsson is younger and better at defense, plays top pair and is the perfect dpartner for Dahlin.

Samuelsson definitely isn’t worth it now but he could in a couple years be part of the next underrated DFD batch, it’s high risk, high reward, he could continue to develop and become a good #2/3 DFD or he could stall and stay closer to a #4 D

On a very depleted sabres defense last year Samuelsson was the clear #2 and him and Dahlin played well together. I think this deal is completely because he is the perfect partner for dahlin.

Toronto Maple Leafs Montreal Canadiens
Ladies the Leafs play the Habs tonight. And you know what the means, slam some money of the Leafs.

Matthews 3 goals plus - solid line
Matthews over 1.5 points - solid line
Add a little parlay - Here’s what I’ve got;
Matthews points, shots, Marner points, Caufield shots, and Leafs win (+1000). Plus on the side Matthews hatty.

Get some cash tonight from the Leafs.

Matthews to score 2+ goals parlayed with MTL ML is +2200 lol

So far I’ve taken the over in a parlay with EDM ML, MTL ML straight up (it would be so on brand for the Leafs to lose somehow), and Matthews over 4.5 shots (+105, which is probably the best odds you’re gonna get on that line all year).

I fully expect Allen to post a shutout and Habs fans hold this over Leaf fans on social for a least a month later

You can still buyout the contrat before he reaches +25 y/o.

If you buy him out at 25, he will count for 700k on your cap for 10 years. Yes it's long but it's a very low cap hit. I dont think 700k cap penalty is a "high risk"

In short, my take is : the true high risk contracts are given to +25 years old players

He's been okay if you discount his shot. Offensive positioning is good, passing is passable (only one assist, though), defensive play is... iffy? He's not a truly bad defender by any means, but he could do better.

He'll be playing top-6 minutes for the first few games if Jeff's lines from yesterday are anything to go by, but i have no clue if he'll keep this good form up.

It's really your call if you want to add him to your fantasyhockey.

On the subject of the Mattias Samuelsson contract: Hot take, but it's actually good. I see too many people saying this is a bad deal because "uehhhh he hasn't scored a goal yet".

1) He's a defenseman. Defensemen put up more assists than anything
2) He's a defensive defenseman. "stay-at-home defensive acumen" and "large goal totals" are essentially mutually exclusive.

I like him as a player, since i love big defensive defensemen like him (why else do you think i like Vladislav Gavrikov as much as i do?)

Another thing that was pointed out from @pinslack is that to buy him out in 2/3 years if he doesn't pan out would only cost buffalo 700k a year which is really not crazy and could definitely be pulled off.

i think half way through this season i am going to think this deal is a steal. especially considering the fact we are paying someone 5% of our payroll to play 22-25 minutes a night. Which is about 8% of the icetime.

This Samuelsson deal is a risky one.

It's gonna be either a Klingberg type steal or a Matheson type mistake. I don't think there's much in between here.
