Pretty sure it would be impossible if the sens want to sign Debrincat next year. But having Karlsson on that PP would be somethin.

I wouldn't do this either, Sens would be much better off just trading for Dylan DeMelo.

Passing on Lassi Thomson over retention on a bad contract is a mistake.

Based on the Burns trade this is an overpay. If they took back Zaitsev and retained 50%, I’d consider making the swap. I get why the sharks wouldn’t want to do that, but he’s a shell of his former self.

He still has skill and if he could ever stay healthy would be a good top 4 guy, but in this deal, if we retain 50% plus take on Zaitsev were essentially paying 10.1 mil for Ziatsev for 2 years and 5.6 mil for 3 years after for the luxury of letting you guys have Karlsson Norris and Stuzie. it's a slap in the face how bad that deal aged and the sharks would rather hold onto Karlsson and pray for a rebound to health.

I’m not a sens fan, but I c why you would view this as a slap in the face. Imo ur better off getting rid of his money tho. Will make it easier on the roster long term.

if we were planning on buying him out i could see this, however the sharks aren't going to be any good for the next 2 years so we might as well keep him and hope for a rebound without Burns on the team.
eating 5.6 mil of his contract just makes this deal sting that much more.

Waiting two years seems fair to me.

DeMelo my be a little older now than what is best for the Sens. However I would love to see the Sens get Ethan Bear from Carolina, what would be the cost there?

hope Is with Burns gone and him as the clear #1 he will rebound (his contract end in his age 36 season so while he will no longer be elite should still be top 4)
plus if your moving Karlsson it's to sign a big time FA and with only gaining 5.9 mil the type of player we could land would at best be comparable to the production were getting from Karlsson if that, so moving him just doesn't make sense, plus when his contract is up we will have a plethora of younger players who will need contracts so it would be smart to just keep him and utilize his cap for raises when he leaves.
For the sharks it's time to rebuild and be patient, you rush a rebuild and you wind up back in one in short time.

I understand that you wouldn't want to give Karlsson back to Ottawa but if Formenton is innocent, this is the best value you could ever dream to get for Karlsson... It's basically 2 firsts and a 2nd while assuming a short term cap dump (and TANK commander) while you rebuild

fair, but then you would have to have some sort of replacement RD and with Burns gone Zaitsev would be the #1 RD followed by Merkley a Benning with no other player even just 1 year from NHL let alone top 4 min. it’s just not logical to move him till we have pieces to replace him with.

What are the Sharks plans by the way? Retool or they said rebuild?

Re-tool. but it’s been 3 years since they made the playoffs and without an insane turnaround looks like another 2 years to me that’s a rebuild

yeah 5 years is a rebuild

What's your thoughts on letting Balcers go?

I mean, he's a pretty nice 3rd line player IMO. Maybe not strong enough physically. Grier is all about that or what?

Meier Hertl
Eklund Couture
Lindblom Bordeleau
Gregor Sturm

Gushin Raska Gadjovich Weatherby
that’s Next years starters LW/C all LHS, plus the other viable NHL caliber players signed currently through next year or RFA. Add Nieto and Bonino this year to that list and there just isn’t room for him or Dahlen hence why both are gone

Dahlen I can see why because he doesn't have a complete game to be successful at the NHL level. He won't score enough to offset that

I still think Balcers would be better than Lindblom and/or Gregor/Sturm but not a big deal in the end.

I'm sure Panthers will be happy

Sturm is a C and brings good size and grit to the lineup. Gregor has better speed and puck handling and has a lot more upside, and to be honest I think his play in the last half of last year is the reason they moved on from him. Lindblom is finally healthy but i’m not sure and no one is really sure if he is capable of top 6 play and production, however with the sharks not being a playoff team, if he plays well will net us a solid return at the TDL.
and as for next year and beyond… with Couture, Bordeleau, and Eklund able to play LW/C and Gushin looking like a top 6 LW to go along with Gregor and the top line of Hertl & Meier and a few more Depth guys like Raska Lorentz and Weatherby the sharks have more players to fill out the left side and C next year than they have spots for, and that’s what I think made him expendable.
