I mean maybe husso at the deadline if Detroit is way out of it but if he's playing well enough to be worth that offer idk why we'd move him. Since when is dumba a salary dump.

Isles have no need for Dumba when we have Pulock-Dobson-Mayfield as our right side. Mayfield is either leaving (trade/FA) or coming back on a reasonable contract. If he doesn't come back, it'll be someone on a very cheap deal (Grant Hutton is making $775K).

If Yzerman were to move Husso, it sure as hell isn't for picks that are 2 and 3 years down the road. If you want Husso it starts with your 2023 1st and not 2024 which is worthless to us.

Guerin shopped him before the draft and there were no teams interested in him. Maybe we can get something for him at the deadline, but as of right now, he's likely walking for nothing at the end of the season.

Yeah but lets be honest here, he retained dumba down to 3m, so if we were to move him at the TDL we could retain him down to 1.5 (same cap hit as mayfield) then the question is what could we get for him at the TDL and is the disparity between returns covered by the pair of 2nds we got minus a 3rd and a 4th.

You don't need to love the tandem., it's temporary. The team has 14M in dead cap so becoming a legitimate threat for the cup is unlikely and stupid to try to pay a bunch of assets for

Fleury won a Vezina 2 years ago and Gus had Sens fans creaming themselves over his potential around the same time. The tendies are fine, they're not gonna carry the team and they're not gonna drag the team down. Like I said, they're fine

Dumba isn't a cap dump, especially at 50% retained

The isles are getting a better defenseman and getting two 2nd rd picks to do it, the isles would be crazy to decline this

Moreover, Gustavsson is literally only 24 years old. That is waaaaaaay too early to be ditching a young goaltender whose has shown flashes of promise of being a solid NHL player in the past for parts of the last two seasons.

Ottawa could afford to part with him because they already had a legitimate starting goaltender in Forsberg and they needed a legit veteran starter to tandem him with so they traded for Cam.

Besides, Gustavsson's numbers last year need to be taken with a grain of salt. As he was playing behind a bad Ottawa team, and a even worse defense.

He has everything he needs to be better this year.

1) A better team and especially a better defense in front of him.

2) A chance to learn from and hone his craft while backing up and playing under MAF, a HOF Goaltender, for an entire season.

That can only pay dividends later.

3) A fresh start in a new city, where he isn't going to be counted on to be *the guy* but will still have an increased opportunity for playing time and chances to grow.

4) While it's early yet, and it's only been in the pre-season, so far he's looked really good. Good enough that he should be given the opportunity to backstop Fluery this year.

If the Fluery/Gustavsson tandem isn't working by the deadline and we're close enough to continue the push for something better. Then yeah, fine. Upgrade, and trade for something better if we can.

But right now, there's zero reason to make that trade.

I'm onboard with Gustavsson as our backup and remain optimistic about his future; however, I'm not sold on that his poor performance in Ottawa was a byproduct of his environment. While I remain hopeful that Gustavsson will turn into Kahkonen 2.0, I've heard from a number of Ottawa fans that he was given PLENTY of opportunities in both the NHL and AHL and looked terrible --- with his time in the AHL being the most troubling as the team in front of him, especially on D, was quite good. I also didn't get the impression that he was under pressure to become their goalie of the future. Of course, I could be wrong and Sens fans, feel free to correct me. However, it doesn't sound like expectations nor the talent in front of him were the reasons he never succeeded in Ottawa.

That being said, most goalies develop until 25 so there's plenty of room. I agree that he will have better defense in front of him but not by an amount that I find comforting. The core is relatively the same as last year and I don't buy the "lack of practices" argument the Wild FO touted when their core consisted entirely of veterans. Addison has looked poor defensively from what I've seen so far. Sustr has looked good but we'll see.

The Wild aren't interested in trading that much draft capital for short term gains. Especially when it's banking on Judd Brackett to build a cup contender by 2024/25 through the draft. If anything, we're looking to add picks -- particularly in this next draft.
