Knies has to be an untouchable, he is the closest prospect to being NHL ready. I would package Robertson and maybe Niemela with a couple of firsts

That would be an overpay imo, I just made a post about what I’d offer. No more than that

Knies, while the best prospect in the Leafs system, is highly overrated by a lot of Leafs fans as such. He is hardly not touchable. Wheeler and Pronman both don't even have him ranked in the top 50 NHL prospects lists that recently were published. Untouchable is a top 10 to 20 prospect, anyone else is touchable for the right reasonable return.

It’s not that he’s overrated. It’s that we need A PWF. And he’s on a ELC that’s hasn’t even been signed yet. He’s exactly the kind of player we need. Why trade him unless we get a similar player who’s NHL ready. As of right now we have a hole on our LW, with his style of play and skill set he fixes that for 3 years. Making less than 1M. That alone makes him untouchable.

I would add Niemela to that list of untouchables and honestly, I don't even think Chychrun is as good as people think he is. That is why I would not even think about trading for him.

I see him as a Morgan Rielly type of dmen.. and I don’t think adding another one of those players makes us better, we need to solidify what we have and bring players that are tough and can let the stars focus on their game. Make space for them and let them Carry the load offensively

Both Knies and Niemela should be considered untouchable because they will fill the two biggest needs of the Leafs soon enough. The types of players that they should be made available are going to be untouchables themselves. The profile of the type of player that Knies should be made available for is a cost controlled top 6 PWF and Niemela a young top 4 puck moving RHD.

Chychrun isn't either, so the best prospect the Leafs should give up for him is Robertson, and he's only worth 3 pieces, not what Arz is asking. Not to mention his lengthy injury history at the young age of 24.

because players sign PTOs with teams they want to play for. The Leafs aren't exactly in a position to dump cash on players to draw them away so they need to focus on players who aren't going to get an NHL contract.

You sure about that? Friedman already reported that every trade that the Leafs were in, everyone was calling in on Knies. When the Leafs were interested in Hampus Lindholm, Ducks wanted Knies. When the Leafs were interested in Hagel, Hawks wanted Knies

If you think Lindholm (MAYBE Hagel) would have been traded 1 for 1 for Knies, you would be sorely mistaken. Because he is the best prospect available and the Leafs don't have many, of course he was included in the ask as part of the package. Knies is a A- prospect, robertson is generally rated the same or even slightly higher. Top 50 prospects, as Pronman and Wheeler both identified, are A to A+ prospects....Leafs have none. So yes, if the Leafs want a high value player on the market, they have to give up their best prospects as part of the package....that has nothing to do with untouchable likely. We are talking Knies, not Owen Power, Beniers, Perfetti, Cooley, Kent johnson, etc. Let's put it in perspective.

Fair enough, but that of course is assuming he translates to the NHL and that is a big "if". He is not a sure bet...most have him projected as a middle 6 winger...which is fine and still a great asset to the Leafs but that is projected not actual, meaning he could be better or worse. Knies is not rated high enough to be a sure-fire lock as a top 6 though....he looks good at this point but TBD.

Presumably to ask about them? Are you gonna sign him? Is he washed? GMs talk to each other.

Oh gotcha. I read it as they would have to talk to the team to acquire the player.
