Nobody wants Bailey in the top six. But Palmieri and Lee playing together would probably be a disaster. You have to switch them. Worst case scenario Bailey can hurt that line in a different way lol.

Didn’t work with Barzal. Palmieri and Lee r too similar imo. Also I really liked Bellows and Palmieri together tbh.

Palmieri and Lee play completely different games. Lee is a net front guy, Palmieri is more of a shooter from distance. It didn’t work with Barzal because that line was atrocious defensively.

Palmieri has a more well rounded arsenal offensively, but they r both scoring winger who want to crash the net. At least that’s how I viewed them with Barzy.

Barzal creates most of his offense off the rush, Palmieri doesn’t go to the net he just can’t keep up with Barzal in transition.

Nelson is more of a cycle and board work type of center which compliments both Lee and Palmieri.

That line would be atrocious on d too tbh. And I’ve always thought of Palmieri as an underrated skater. As far as that roster goes he’s OK at keeping up with Barzy. I prefer Wally and Beau too, but I’m not thrilled with how Beau looked game one.

iirc, they also couldn’t have played any more than 5 games and Lee was still recovering from that ACL. Not saying it would’ve worked but they never really had a chance either. Best is to keep Palmieri and Lee apart tho

Real issue with Palmieri is he had terrible puck luck in the first half. Lee’s skating was so-so for the first twenty-thirty games which is understandable given his knee injury.

They played the first thirteen together…. Or most of those games together anyway. I think Wally has looked good in the preseason, but he can’t play with Lee either imo.

That’s the real issue with this group. Lee, Palmieri and Wally really can’t play together imo. Beau and Bailey can’t play together. And Parise can’t be the top line left wing. But it’s early in the preseason so I won’t read too much into it.

Nelson is solid on D and because of the style they play (dump and chase, cycle to create high danger looks) they wouldn’t give much back in transition.

I don’t think Palmieris a good skater at all. His agility is terrible. I also don’t care how any of the regulars look in pre-season, none of them are going all out. It’s all for conditioning.

I’m not sure what you mean by “agility” when it comes to his skating. Straight line speed he’s ok tho, if u mean his edge work isn’t elite then I agree with you.

Beau and Bailey can play together with Nelson. They have some really good chemistry, it’s just Bailey isn’t good enough to play top 6. I don’t think Parise should play top line LW but if I had to guess, these are the opening night lines.

Agility = edge work. It’ is really bad. Can’t change direction - when he was with Barzal , Barzal would cut to the middle and he was just to slow to get in proper position. Eberle was elite in that regard

He’s not shifty if that’s what u mean. He’s a straight line winger for sure, but he’s not a bad player. Just overpaid like the rest of their wingers.

Tbh I didn’t want him back last year.

Since the Tampa series and beginning of last season, the Bailey with Beau/Nelson just hasn’t worked out because Bailey is terrible

Sorry lol. I thought that’s what you meant but I wasn’t sure. Look he’s a straight line winger, but his speed is ok. Eberle was a high end skater for a long time tho. Not really a fair comp imo.

Oh I’m not disagreeing with the whole Bailey thing, just in terms of line chemistry for the top 9, that’s probably the 3 with the most chemistry and the fact that Bailey brings down the line so much, A. Shows how bad Bailey is and B. shows how bad this forward group is constructed
