Jets Retool TDL

Description
I’m one to believe that the Jets will be looking at retooling by the time the TDL rolls around. I really think they’re going to struggle this year and I think some of the same issues will show again. They never solved the locker room issue, and Bowness won’t be able to waive a magic wand and fix everything. They might as well try to get a bit younger and improve their draft position as much as possible.

Chevy has put this team in quite an odd spot, trading for Schmidt was a mistake, but I like the Dillon move because he brings something that they don’t have which is grit and physicality on the backend.

They’re looking at quite the busy offseason, as they will have to maneuver the PLD situation which personally I think is resolved before the offseason as shown here, while also looking at a wheeler trade and potential scheifele deal. Wheeler could become an attractive trade piece at the TDL if he’s producing well and jets retain 50%.

I’d imagine that a few guys are moved, and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more than just these few.

Détails additionnels:
Ottawa proves to be in the hunt for a playoff spot and looks to shore up their blue line in order to make a push. They acquire someone familiar.

  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (VGK)
Détails additionnels:
Send this guy to mars I really don’t care. Maybe a team wants to add LD depth for playoffs. I wouldn’t expect anything more than a 3rd in return.
3.
WPG
  1. Newhook, Alex
Détails additionnels:
Colorado feels that they need to upgrade their 2C position, allows them to load up for 2 playoff runs. Jets swap PLD for newhook 1 for 1 as they look to gamble on the future potential of Newhook. PLD is only 3 years older than Newhook and is a much more established player.

I’m guessing COL fans will hate this a lot, and I understand that. PLD is an upgrade over Newhook but by the TDL that may no longer be the case.

yeah they have 1.9 avali now and 2 extra d making around 700-900 k would need 50% retained for the season.

Not bad ideas. I don't think the Jets go 1 for 1 for Newhook unless Newhook really has a great season. Although if he did, why would Colorado do it. So, I don't know if that one works.

You didn't show retention in your trade and that would work for this year but next year how do they resign him with only 15 mil and 9 roster spots to fill out?

Yeah I meant to add 50% retention. His QO is only 6.6 million next year and they can afford it by moving girard. Newhook is going to cost them a bit next year anyways and newhook on his new deal and girard together will make more than what PLD will make if they just qualified him. COL is pretty well all in right now. There’s always a way to make the cap work, look at Tampa lol.

What can we really expect in a PLD return? It’s widely known he’s on his way out and he doesn’t exactly produce a whole load of points to make him an extremely valuable piece. The best case scenario is that the jets find a team who wants to load up for a few playoff runs and get as much back as possible. I’d argue that this is a really good move, Newhook is still young and could mature really nicely into a top 6 position. He can play C or wing and the Jets are going to need to retool and look towards a new window in 2025-2027 with a core built around some younger players.

We'll his standard price at the TDL is a 1st and a prospect, so they'd have that as a minimum. I like Newhook too, but I don't know how management sees him. Going by what they are now, Newhook as good as he is, is still a downgrade, so it would depend on what the Jets see as his ceiling.

I just can't see the Jets moving him in division for a barely fair or even fair deal. I think they likely move him out of division and probably even conference if they have to.

But Newhook is certainly a nice piece to consider, I just don't know how plausible it is.

Got to add some firsts next three drafts, kind of hoping for 7 including there own to hopefully rebuild the nucleus fast, looking kind of tough though, unless the cap starts climbing. Draftpicks and cap room like gold of late. Hopefully a healthy return on Dubois, and possibly a sale of scheifele/helly little worried about 5 year contract extensions in chevys desk. Will be interesting going forward.

I feel like a first and a prospect is fair, like you said it all comes down to how management would value a player like newhook.

I’m not worried about it being interdivisional, Dubois will leave after 23-24 for MTL likely.

It’s definitely a tough situation. Chevy has a lot of work to do. I wouldn’t be giving scheif or helly more than 5 years. I’m worried about helly’s health and scheif doesn’t seem like he has a game that will age very well.

not touching PLD with a 10 foot pole in a trade without an extension, he wont be making more than his current AAV either or else thats just a bad contract.

A guy who is pouting his way to UFA is the last thing the avs want in that locker room

I think it’s just a winnipeg issue lol. The guy came into an absolute mess of a room, so don’t blame him for wanting out. The MTL stuff is overblown, but as of now I do think he ends up in MTL. He’s been a very vocal leader on the jets and if he wasn’t involved in all this speculation he’d be a real candidate for the C.

I think he’d definitely entertain an extension in Colorado. I get your apprehension though lol.

What’s your view on newhook?

The trade deadline Newhook very well maybe the upgrade would ver PLD. Hard pass. COL isn’t trading team controlled assets for guys that want to be in MTL.

COL is already running him at 2C, and he looks good. Bednar said if everybody was healthy he would run him between Landeskog and Nichushkin. COL isn’t trading Newhook.

newhook is a 2C talent, he is smart, defensively aware and has great speed that fits the Avs identity. He could be as good or better than Dubois talent wise, that is his ceiling.
PLD is eating off his rep as a 2 way C, his numbers in Winnipeg show he is not very good decently. At 6m already, him as a 2C is getting pretty expensive.

I dont think he will be worth the 8m aav he will want in a long term extension.
