Bottom 6 Upgrade

Créé par: TMLBRIAN
Équipe: 2022-23 Oilers d'Edmonton

Description
Evans and Boyd would be perfect additions to Edmontons bottom 6 in my mind. Their top 9 can be constructed 47 different ways. So don't yell at me about line combos.

I think Montreal can benefit from Barrie and Edmonton can benefit from Savard.

Thoughts?

there fixed - I did say not to worry about the lines. Ryan and Mcleod had almost identical years last year.

Where's the Oilers faithful to say how great Barrie is, and he should fetch a 1st and a top 6 player with salary retention?

I have not liked the look of Edmonton for years. This is the first year where I more or less like the look of their team. If they can turn Barrie into a defensive dmen and get a little better in their bottom 6, their team will be scary good. I really like the roster as I have it constructed here (lines can vary many ways).

Savard, Evans, Boyd would all be beautiful additions.

I was a BIG fan of them getting Kane. That really helped enhance their team. Kulak has been a wonderful addition also.

Barrie at 4.5m x 2 is actually a solid contract. I think it was a perfect contract for both sides. I just feel like Edmonton has soooo much offensive power, they can part for him for a more defensive first type of guy.

Evans is a solid piece also.

But I would be shocked at a 1st ++ for Barire.

Montreal isn't making that trade IMO, that would give us too many offensive D men and no one to cover defensively. Moving Evans means we have a 4C making a min of 3.4 mil (Dach) which makes very little sense.

I made the Montreal version of this here - https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3668287

The biggest factor for me, was clearing up forward contracts and accumulating picks. Their D is clearly not good enough this year.

Unleashing Barrie to get Caufield and Suzuki and gang going would be fun to see in my mind.

We have puck movers who in Matheson, Wideman, Harris, Barron and Guhle is even showing solid skating and passing abilities our only defensive D men are Guhle (more of a 2-way guy), Savard and Edmundson. Edmundson is injured and you are trading Savard to add another offensive D man. You think our D is bad now having 4-6 offensive guys and no defensive guys would be a shooting gallery for our opponents.

My main focus was getting that 1st round pick. It wasn't about making Montreal better this year. 1 year less on Barries contract also.

Savard is basically done as an NHLer, he's not worth anywhere near what Barrie is. And Evans isn't worth a 1st, he's a 4C making too much money. What were you thinking here? The value is WAY off.

And you have Edmonton paying to take on more cap (MTL) and then paying to get rid of cap (AZ). That doesn't seem logical either.

Ryan - 75 games - 10 Goal - 12 Assists - Minus 4 - avg 10:30 ice time. Relative Corsi Plus 2.54
McLoed - 71 games - 9 goals - 12 Assists - Minus 2 - avg 11:31 ice time. Relative Corsi Plus 1.61

It's hard to find 2 players who had as similar of stat lines in the league. Of course this doesn't show intangibles and eye ball test and all that jazz.

But they are 100% a proper comparable, whether you like it or not.

For the fan base, I adjusted my lines and put Ryan as the scratch :P.

We can get a 1st at the deadline without touching the D. Monahan, Drouin and Dadonov all have the potential to return a 1st with retention on them if they have a good season. No need to throw our future D (Guhle, Harris and Barron) to the wolves like this.
