Kaut is an NHL ready forward with middle 6 upside who plays a heavy 200 foot game. He's struggled to break into Bednar's team as he doesn't play at the furious pace coach Bednar wants, but on a team like the Jets he'd be a good bet to take a full time job.

Kaut probably has more upside (and also higher draft pedigree) than Chisholm, but Chisholm's waiver exemption would bridge the gap in value between the two.

Winnipeg have a gluttony of LHD's so something needs to give. Swapping a D prospect for an NHL ready forward prospect could make a lot of sense.

Chisholm skates well which would fit Colorado's style. Ideally they'd want a RHD but Jets aren't as deep at RHD and he also seems like D prospect who would be the best stylistic fit for the Avs from the Jets B tier of D prospects.

I think Chisholm has a lot more upside than Kaut at this point. No clue how they value Chisholm so I’m not sure if they’d accept or not

I'd think Winnipeg says no. Chisholm looked pretty good in the time he's had while Kaut hasn't looked like much of anything.

If WPG is going to keep Kaut as a full time NHLer then they may not care if hes waiver eligible or not

Just a bit, but it was something different. He played with a fast pace and not just an odd burst. It was a huge step forward. I should pump the breaks until he does it a few skates and preseason games in a row. Someone must have had a motivating heart to heart with him after a really lack luster first skate.

How much have you watched Kaut play?

Chisholm may have looked good, but realistically he's never breaking into WPG's top 6 given how many bodies are ahead of him in the depth chart. Maybe you prefer to trade him for someone else though or just waive him in 12 months which is fair enough.

But, if Jets management liked Kaut, it could work. I'd just rather not trade Chisholm for the sake of trading him for a pieces that doesn't look like it would amount to anything.

COL has Behrens, Little Z and Aamodt already on the left side, so don’t see the point. I know I’m a bigger fan of Kaut than most but it just doesn’t make sense.

Aamodt is irrelevant as he's not NHL calibre. Z and Chisholm can play on the right. But yeah it's not ideal.

I was just thinking of possible routes the Avs could go if Kaut doesn't make the roster. Better to get something for him even if it's not ideal instead of losing him for nothing on waivers.
