Opening Lines and Future Roster Moves

Description
Reportedly Brown will get a chance on the 1st line with Ovi and Kuzy.

Waivers are going to be a pain in the ass for the Caps.
- When Alexeyev returns, send down either Gutafsson/Johansen as Alexeyev is now Waiver Eligible.
- Irwin and Snively get waived at the start of the year, and are used throughout the year as callups.
- Waive/trade Johansson or Eller when Wilson returns, keep AJF and Leason up. If there is a long term injury to anyone (most likely Oshie), keep everyone.
- Deal Hagelin to a team needing LTIR relief for a pick if possible

Trading for a player that is LTIR bound only makes sense if someone is sending a contract back.

Otherwise, the team acquiring the LTIR player is essentially agreeing to pay the player for you. Plus you're asking for pick on top of it.

Yes, but didn't want to add a player from a certain team since Hagelin could be moved anywhere. Meant to write it in the trade but must have slipped my mind.

Looks about right. Hoping Johansen takes Gus spot. I like AA a lot so hopefully they don't trade him.

Yeah looks pretty accurate on my end. I saw an hour ago McMichael was at 2c and Strome was at 2LW, thought that was very interesting (I know only day 1 lol). Everything else is spot on with how today went.

I did not see Johansen as an extra (might must have missed him). I saw Gus as the 3rd LHD with Irvin and Carlsson as extras. Anyways, looks good.

Question on Alexeyev (and hockey waivers) - does he need to start up in the NHL (since he will probably be on LTIR)? If he starts on LTIR then goes directly to the AHL (and plays the whole year down there), would he still need to go through waivers? If so, I think maybe it would be best for him to stay down in AHL for another year (especially since he is coming off of surgery and had a so-so year last year). I know reports said Johansen had a great AHL year and that Alexeyev's timeline is 4-5 from mid June so early November-ish he would be back...?

Not sure if there would be a way to avoid waivers, I believe he would end up considered as an NHL player and would thus have to be subjected to waivers and I believe those on LTIR can only be loaned for a short period of time before needing to go on waivers, but I would need to look into that further.

McMichael at 2C and Strome at 2LW interests me quite a bit, letting McM go back to center could really help him if he's able to be coached by Backstrom/Kuzy and i'd like to see a Strome-McMichael-Mantha line anyway, so I'll be interested to see if that continues.

Interesting - well thanks for the tag / feedback!

Also saw that Hags is out indefinitely with another injury (not the eye).

My personal rankings of who I would risk sending down to waivers from who I would rather see most to least:

D -- Carlsson, Irwin, Johansen, Gustafsson, AA
F -- Leason, Johansson, Eller, AJF, Snively, Sheary

          How I think management feels:

D -- Irwin, Carlsson, AA, Johansen, Gustafsson
F -- Leason, AJF, Snively, Sheary, Johansson, Eller

Will be interesting to see how the camp battles play out. I know I am a lot lower on pretty much every waiver-eligible prospect than everyone else. Wouldn't be too upset about losing any of those guys to be honest except AA and Snively. AJF fills a nice role but is a dime a dozen, Johansen I think maxes out as a 6d, Leason was imo the least impressive kid last year and I think maxes out as a 13f.

As for the vets, everyone rightly was mad at Johansson keeping CMC out of the lineup but he actually played very well for us last year. Sheary is in a weird place as a utility guy that might get pushed out for not having a definitive role, but he's too proven and versatile to risk losing I think. Eller is also interesting because while I would much prefer CMC and Strome playing 2 and 3c, as we saw last year you can never have too much depth. Also don't know if at his cap hit he would be claimed or not.

@All_Knowing you can assign someone on LTIR to a conditioning stint in the AHL for a max of 3 games or 6 days without them going through waivers. They behave like they are still on LTIR, but to be activated and permanently assigned to Hershey Alexeyev would still need to pass through waivers though -- this is a good explainer of it https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2021/2/16/22284010/understanding-conditioning-stints-toronto-maple-leafs-roster-loopholes-that-arent

Thanks! I wonder if you have to put AA on LTIR (instead just move him down to Hershey and not play him - that way he doesn't count against the cap anyways). Probably won't happen but always eager to learn here.

Thanks again for the information !
