Description
Hey fellow professional General managers who all know the inner workings of the NHL.

I think that the Canucks and Kings could both benefit from a deal like this.
1. LA has a log jam on the right side with a top end prospect ahead of Grans. Doughty, Roy, Walker and Durzi are all current roster guys on the right side, Clarke and spence are the next 2 call ups.
2. Nucks have a log jab between the pipes, to the point where DiPietro is interested in a trade. He currently sits as the 4th string Goalie who is super highly regarded and is still young.
3. There is really nothing coming in the pipeline for the Kings, Hrenak might be something but its too early, DiPietro would instantly become the 3rd best goalie in the organization.
4. There really arent anything coming for the canucks on the right side, Juulsen might develop after the injuries he's had but Grans would be the best RD prospect for the canucks.

I fully see and understand that Grans has more value than DiPietro, but how much more valuable?
I think a 2nd (+MD) for a 4th (+HG) is fair but let me know your thoughts.

It would essentially be a 3rd for Grans as Dipietro doesn’t really have any value, if he did he would have been traded by now.
Lundqvist just went for a 1st and either a 3rd or 4th, I don’t think Grans is as valuable but if that’s the price of a unproven RD prospect I would think he’s probably worth a late 1st or early 2nd.

Well, Dallas's 1st rounder is probably going to be in the mid teens unless Lundkvist breaks out into the next Cale Makar or close to

I think that DiPietro still has value and from what I have heard, teams around the league would be interested on taking him on, I think the timing of this trade would be everything.

The reason why I disagree with your Lundqvist comp is because scoring defenders are worth so much more than stay at home guys, Lundqvist was a 1st rounder who would, if the 2018 draft was redone, might go in the mid teens, and for the security of having an NHL ready offensive defenceman, they paid the 4th.

I will take your input on grans but Dipietro still has value.

You’re gonna have to give 1st + 2nd + Dipietro to convince Rob Blake. Grans is a solid future defenseman with size.

The Kings don't have room for another goaltender in the pipeline.

They have Quick and Petersen in the NHL

They have Villalta and Copley at AHL-Ontario. Villalta will get the lion's share of starts in the AHL, with Copley being the 3rd string goaltender for LA in case one of the NHL guys go down.

Hrenak and Ingham are playing in ECHL-Greenville and will split starts.

Lukas Parik signed an AHL contract with the Colorado Eagles (the Avs affiliate) because the Kings have no where else to stash him to get playing time.

Where do you suggest they put DiPietro?

How recent were the articles you were reading? I believe it was Dhaliwal that recently said (within the last week I believe) there was no interest in DiPietro, and Dhaliwal is a pretty well connected and respected insider. Unless DiPietro has a big bounce back season, which he won’t if his rights are still owned by Vancouver, then I don’t think he holds any value.

I agree that offensive defensemen are worth more than defensive defensemen, which is part of the reason I said Grans isn’t worth as much as Lundkvist… With that said, if we are talking redrafts and using that to determine current worth, Grans goes higher than his 35th overall position where he was selected.

I would be ecstatic if DiPietro and a 4th got Grans, but I don’t see it happening.

Where are you seeing/hearing that? I’ll admit I haven’t seen him play, I’m assuming we’ll over 95% of the people on this site haven’t either, but what I have read about him is that he is a two - way defensemen who’s really strong defensively. Definitely not as offensive as the comparable being discussed on this thread (Lundkvist).

I've seen him play several times in person in Ontario. He's a mobile defenseman that needs to improve his defensive game.
