I find it hard to believe they’re legit out of it, but even if they aren’t they might take that. Retention would likely be a sticking point though

Not a chance that Boston is going to agree to retain 3x$3M for an in-division trade. The overpay would have to be monumental to get them to agree to that.

    OVERPAY OF THE CENTURY

You see teams paying a 1st + prospect for a top tier forward for 1 year. Leafs are getting one for 3 years and also paying for 3x3M retention, which is easily worth another 1st on top

If theyre going for a full rebuild I dont see why they wouldnt be willing to retain, they wouldnt be a cap team anymore and when youre tanking who cares if the trade is in-division or not?

It's the 2023 version of Hall....No way the give up two first rounders and Hiro. Not saying the Bruins or Hall would agree to the deal either

Division matters because of the optics - why would you want to help out one of your biggest rivals, even if you're rebuilding? Boston is literally giving the Leafs Taylor Hall -plus- $9M of cap relief with this trade, and all they get back are a pair of prospects and a couple of late 1sts?

Hall is still a very good player. They are not only paying for a top line forward, but also for the retention to bring him down to 3M AAV for 3 cup runs. Imo thats at least half the value here

BOS would only consider this if they were out of a playoff spot and were going to start rebuilding. Hall only has a 10 team no trade list, I dont think TOR would be on it

This is something that I absolutely agree with personally, but I don't think there are a lot of GM's who share that mentality.

Maybe add Ullmark (at half price, of course) and throw in Murray going the other way. That way you can fit Pastrnak and Bergeron (double-retained) too.

Did you miss the price this guy wants to pay? It absolutely is a monumental overpay for a guy who's beginning to look like a fast decline into a bottom 6 role.

If they resign Pastranak then they won't be rebuilding. They will try to retool and then the I wager they would want Hall still or at least wouldn't want to retain on him at all.

In this scenario they would do a full rebuild and trade Pastrnak as well

He managed 60 points last year in a top 6 role. He's 30 and can't stay healthy.

    1) the Leafs have Marner and Nylander on RW already
    2) Only 1 year in term, Leafs probably wouldnt be able to extend him. On the other hand Hall gives them 3 years on a super cheap deal to compete

I he regresses more or continues to get her for half the season, how good is that 3 million dollar forward? If he scores less than 30 in 50 games year over year is that really worth it? Pasta makes them the deepest team in the league and either him or Nylander can switch to LW.

    Hall's 5v5 P/60
    17-18: 2.42 (MVP season)
    21-22: 2.29

His minutes dropped and his 5v5 P/60 is only slightly lower than it was during his Hart trophy season with NJD. He had reduced minutes and was put into a different PP position which dropped his PP production. His EV Offensive WAR was in the 91st percentile last year and his EV Defensive WAR was in the 73rd percentile. Hes still strong at both ends of the ice and I think if you put him with an actual 2C instead of Haula his production will increase to around 1 P/GP again

I know he missed time with injuries before but he just played 81 regular season games last year, I dont think its fair to say he cant stay healthy

I still pass, he's on the wrong side of 30 and I think his health is a concern. His style of play leads to more and more injuries especially as he gets older.

Lets be honest 2 divisional rivals especially ones who hate eachother's bones wont trade

    Unless its Brad Marchand wink

I do think Toronto makes a swing for someone big at the TDL but I have 0 idea who its gonna be

    The 3 runner ups

    1. Kane
    2. Bertuzzi (I know the rival thing but I dont think Det and Toronto have done much trading with eachother that has gone as bad as the Boston trade)
    3. Hellebuyck (If Jets fall out of a playoff spot and decide to blow it up at TDL and if Murray or Sammy arent doing well)

Would you really want Marchand from ages 34-36 over Hall from ages 31-33? Yes Marchand has obviously been better the past couple seasons but hes 3 years older and coming off of double hip surgery. I think theres more way risk of him declining than Hall. Though I guess if the trade is made at the TDL then you can see how he plays after surgery before trading for him

As for Marchand. Hey hometown kid who is a little rat and just imagine him and bunting causing havoc. Would be kind of fun. Also would be the biggest story of the century

Hall would also be fine but idk I feel a more 2-way LW would be more fun
