No, they will get a package better than this if they were to move him though. It’s not this package or sit out a season

Sure there are. Teams can trade salary back. That’s absurd that you think no one has cap space, no one can trade players/picks/prospects for him. DAL will sign him anyways as there’s been no trade demands

If it was Montreal’s unprotected 1st then maybe they’d do it. Or Slafkovsky. Not a late 1st, cap dump, and 3C

Robertson is going sit out for season?

A million things happen between this trade and him sitting out. This is a truly pathetic offer. Cap dumps and a pick for Robertson is kind of a joke.

He’s an RFA with no arb rights. If they can’t work out a long term deal, they work out a short bridge. If things get bitter, every other team in the league blows this junker of an offer out of the water.

And yes, if the choices are letting Robertson sit out a year, and handle it in the offseason, or take this offer, the obvious choice is to let him sit out.

I think if montreal added slafkovsky to this deal it still gets rejected.

There’s this thing called bridge deals. It’s when you sign a player to a short term contract at less money so they can sign a bigger deal when the cap goes up and there’s also more cap space created. 6mx2 rolls him into the year that we expect the cap to hit 90m+. Pavelski is off the books after this season so even a 1 year deal works. It’s a simple concept used often by GMs. Nowadays players are staying to use this tactic(good players) so that they can resign ever 4-5 years for more $ assuming they don’t think there’s a chance to decline. Matthews is an example of this

Doubtful. My guess is Nill is hoping Dobby shows well enough in first preseason game for somebody to take a chance on him, so they can give Robertson more term. That offer is trash

Montreal can’t afford him. Oh wait you have cap coming back the other way. Fascinating. Other teams can do that too eh?

Rumor is the ask is 7 million on a bridge deal which literally only requires Dallas to send Dobby to the AHL. Montreal literally has no cap space. You act like moving money is impossible but you literally did that with the Chicago trade you proposed. You apparently live in a fantasy world where Dallas has zero options and Montreal has all the options. Lol

Brutal for Dallas. A cap dump, a mediocre centre, one year of a bottom end Dman and a late first.
Why is this illusion that unsigned RFAs are going to "sit out the season". They could play in Europe, still get offered by an NHL team, or resign with their current team. Sitting out is like the last thing Robertson should do.

As rosters currently sit, there’s 5 teams with more cap space than DAL and 4 that could offer him at least 8M a year. 3 of them more. That’s before LTIR comes into play.

MTL can’t afford him unless they offer back a big contract. So your logic that DAL can’t afford him but MTL can is wrong. Both teams need to move cap to afford him.
