Robertson but its a definite no

Description
Henrique provides the win-now add as he is still pretty good ~.75 points per game last season. Lundestrom is a very good defense first 3C who has solid finishing and still has room to grow offensively. The 1st being top 5 protected just means if the ducks somehow win the lottery no matter where they finish it isn’t moved but that highly unlikely. The 2nd in ‘25 is for when the stars should be transitioning into rebuild/retool mode. Willing to add Clange or Dostal if needed.

But it’s a guarantee no from DAL. So go ahead and roast me.

Nah. He’s not being traded. None of the teams that can afford his cap hit have the win now players to move and those who have the win now players don’t have the cap space. It’ll have to be a Tkachuk like deal for him to be traded.

Congrats. Offering the 1st overall pick before he ever plays a second is awful asset management. My trade is poor but at least I know that.

Every 1st round pick traded from now on should have protection with the new lottery rules. Since you can only win the lottery so many times you shouldn’t move a lottery winning pick. Top 6 protection should become the norm unless the pick is needed to be that high to make trade value fair. Even if the team is a Cup contender they should add those conditions just solely based on the .0001% chance.

No, we don't need to add McTavish, that's an untouchable asset.

Since Ana is very likely a lottery pick, then it absolutely comes with protection, should be top 10 protected.

We can leave Dobby in Dallas and do a 50% retention on Henrique, if they are not resigning Robertson they don't need Dobby gone. 50% on Henrique goes further for them into next year as well. I don't like the idea of letting Lundestrom go, but of a young, cost controlled forwards, he is expendable for a deal like this.

What's your point? As in I don't know who he is? Dude was shooting 18% last season, regress that down to 14% and he gets 30 goals on the season. Still very good, but not the epic 41 goals he had this season. Few teams can even bid for him at this point without sending significant cap back to Dallas, which will be a problem depending on the deal, so we are competing with what, Montreal, Buffalo, and maybe Detroit for his rights?

I would make the following trades for Robertson.

Troy Terry straight up hockey trade. Only put up 4 fewer goals last season than Robertson, had less assists, but was also on a worse team where he had to make the magic happen himself. Due for contract next season, so its a one year punt, but that gets Pavs and Dobby off the books for Dallas.

Adam Henrique at 50% retention (2.9 mil AAV hit for this AND next season, 0.6 P/PG average, can play center as well) + 2024 1st (unprotected) + Brayden Tracey (our top LW prospect, 29 OA pick from 2019)

Some smaller depth pieces can go with either deal such as Derek Grant (29 pts last season, expiring contract at 1.5 mil AAV) or Sam Carrick (4th line grinder) in order to help things along.

If you guys were going to get face value, you would need to have traded him early in the summer, when more than a few teams could afford him, and don't have the ability to twist your arm because we know you're in win now mode.

Montreal won't offer Suzuki or Caufield, there next best scorers are Dadonov and Andersson, They wouldn't retain on Andersson as he has 5 years left on his deal at 5.5 AAV, and Dadonov is a rental that you could get for 2.5 mil AAV (Assuming Montreal retains 50%) Dadonov scored 20 goals and 43 points last year.

Buffalo Won't give you Thompson who they just extended, and Skinner has 5 years left on his deal, they won't retain 3+ mil for 5 years. Their next best scorers were Okposo at 21 goals 45 pts and Olofsson at 20 goals 49 pts. 4 and 4.75 mil cap hit respectively, though Buffalo may be willing to retain on either as Olafsson has two years and Okposo is a rental.

Redwings won't give you Larkin, Copp, or Raymond, your choices are Bertuzzi, or Perron, both 4.75 mil AAV. Bert 30 goals 62 points, Perron, 27 goals 57 pts. Detroit has the ability to retain Bert, probably not Perron due to the number of raises they have next season. Bert is on an expiring contract where he becomes a UFA, and can't play in Canada because he refuses to get vaccinated, and isn't a US citizen, so until all Covid restrictions are gone for border crossings, he has to quarantine before re-entering the US.

Arizona would maybe give you Schmaltz, he is signed for 5.8 mil for 4 more seasons, was nearly a PPG player this season which was his 7th in the show, he is 26 years old, right shot C/RW. You cant afford Schmaltz, Your next option is Lawson Crouse, 20 goals, 34 pts last season, 5 years left at 43 mil AAV for him.

Winnipeg could give you Ehlers or Du Bois. Both 6 mil AAV, both had 28 goals last season, 55 pts for Ehlers, 60 for Du Bois. Du Bois is RFA expiring this season, Ehlers has 3 years and is a UFA at the end.

Take your pick for replacing 41 goals for under 6 mil AAV. Here is your list of all players that are 6 mil and under AAV that have a shot at replacing Robertson's points production. Several of them are not options (Huberdeau for example) because I can't filter out a teams available cap space.

I’d expect it to. I’d assume its based on the original owner of the pick. If it only applies to the owner of the pick at the lottery then okay the protections aren’t needed as much.

Conditions stick with the pick. The team receiving the pick has the conditions met before the pick is their to do with as they wish.

EX. Anaheim trades its 2023 1st to Dallas, but it is top 10 protected (slide to 2024 1st if condition is met) Pick is 5OA, therefor the condition is met, Dallas receives the 2024 1st.

If Dallas trades away that conditional pick from Anaheim to Arizona, it still "passes through" Dallas before going to Arizona, thus the conditions remain intact.

Not talking about conditions. Taking about the lottery rules. Team can only win twice in 5 years (I think that’s what it is). So if ANA trades the pick and it ends up winning the lottery, is ANA “winning the lottery”? Or the team who owns the pick?

I’d assume it would be ANA and therefor they can only win again once in the time period. Which is why I think teams should start putting protections on 1st rounders when everyone involved is expecting the pick to be outside the top 10 just in case.

That offer is offensive. Top players cost top pieces. Not Lundestrom, a 32 year old Henrique, and a protected first. I don’t see a scenario where this trade works as the pieces Dallas would want are the ones Anaheim doesn’t want to move. The whole thing doesn’t matter anyways. Robertson doesn’t want out. Contract negotiations are progressing. Maybe Nill want the higher term contract and is waiting to see if Dobby shows well enough in the first preseason game to not have negative value. Maybe Robertson’s agent is playing hardball. I feel like there’s enough comps out there for the negotiations to be pretty straight forward. Which has me thinking Nill is looking to shed some money

You guys? I couldn’t care less about dallas. This is just obvious. Of course they’ll sign him, and of course they won’t trade him for anything close to that small of a package.

Not a fan of dallas, huge fan of logic and reason.

32 year old Henrique to go with Pavelski, Benn, Seguin, Suter, Hakanpaa etc. Also you act like he’s not good but he’s better than all but one guy I listed and only signed for 2 years. I was waiting for the Henrique slander.

I already said he won’t be traded. Theyre either waiting to shed cap or accrue cap in season to hit his number. Problem is, every game he misses raises his cap hit this year so there’s a bit of a time limit to get it done. I think Guarianov gets moved during training camp.

Also this won’t stop me from posting one more Robertson trade that’s actually a little more serious.

I never said Henrique wasn’t a good player. I just said a 32 year old center with only two years left doesn’t move the needle on a Robertson trade. Nill isn’t building for win now. He’s building a long term winner. He says it literally every interview lol

He’s got Benn and Seguin for 3 and 5 years. Gonna be tough with those contracts and their play as of late. Seguin gets healthy he has something left but idk about Benn.

It’s all manageable. Segs is figuring out how to be effective post injuries. He doesn’t skate as well any more but he’s still a talented player. Benn isn’t close to worth what he’s making but his production should improve under DeBoer. Money is there for Robertson now. Nill just has to decide if he wants to move money or settle for a bridge. Money is there for Hintz next year. Money should be coming off as our younger players need raises. I don’t think Guri is the right move. He’s got an amazing shot, wheels, and size. His overall game and decision making isn’t great, but Bowness wasn’t exactly the right coach for him. If he can get his head on straight, he’s a keeper. Faksa is the guy that really sticks out to me. Dobby is likely easier to unload, but that only frees up money this year and we’ll still want Faksa’s money gone next year and the year after. Dumping Faksa, burying Dobby in the AHL, and giving Robertson max term just makes too much sense to me. You can bridge him but then he’ll be looking for Huberdeau money in a few years when Segs money is still on the books. Post all the trades you want but that one above would be like me offering Pavelski, Dellandrea, a first, and a second for Zegras or Tavish
