Brutal deal for New Jersey. Give up the second overall pick who will ANCHOR their backend with Luke Hughes, give up Holtz who's potential is in the air but could become a Nylander type forward, and Bratt who is young and fresh off a 70 point season for a defenceman they don't need, and a downgrade in their top 6?

If they can get Q Hughes for a package based around Mukhamadulin, Foote, a first and an additional pick or player then fine, but these are three quality assets for one.

I wouldn’t criticize NJ for trading Nemec or Holtz as the center piece of a Hughes deal, just because of the fact it will keep Jack and Luke happy. But I don’t c a realistic way to make it work for both teams. NJ is better off standing Pat imo.

Unfortunately if we’re going to try and get Quinn, I think the best case scenario would be through free agency when his deal is eventually up. His role as a defensemen isn’t necessarily a need on the team while we have Dougie, and we’re realistically gonna lose any trade that happens in the meantime. Eventually when Dougie’s deal is almost up we can cut ties with him and then go out and get Quinn. Having multiple offensive defensemen on the blue line is a nightmare waiting to happen in the defensive zone. I say we wait.

Canucks take it and run

Devils would be destroyed with this. Maybe a deal with Gritsyuk and some other smaller pieces + picks would work

I am not saying the trade is perfect in any way, or that the Devils would benefit from it overall.
But since when does a team, any team, lack the need of arguably a top 20 D-man?

If the headline player coming back is Mukhamadullin/Foote/Gritsyuk then the Canucks laugh. If you want a 23 year old, top pairing, arguable top 10 dman in the league you have to give up elite assets. It starts with Nemec+

it would likely be like Nemec one for one then. Debrincat got less value than the 2nd OVR pick and Hughes has less value than Debrincat.

Hughes definitely has more value than Debrincat. #1 dman value > #1 winger value. Plus everyone knows Chicago got fleeced in that trade so it doesn’t set the market (example: look at what Tkachuk who requested a trade returned)

You can argue the theoretical values of prospects and picks VS. established players all you want, as it's never an exact science to predict the ceilings of these guys. The reality is that Q. Hughes is the Canucks most important player on their team, and wouldn't pick up the phone on an offer for him unless he demanded to be traded or there was a massive overpay that included an established young star Dman coming back to replace him. There's just no other reason for them to do it unless they want to tank for Bedard.

However... to say DeBrincat is more valuable than Q. Hughes is ..... I'm going to say a minority opinion if you asked most objective fans of hockey.

Depends on what year the draft is in. I’d take him over Slafkovsky or Lafreniere. Not over Bedard

Why would the Canucks trade Hughes 1 for 1 for a guy that they hope would be as good as Hughes is? No reason to

man i love this website lmao. I got people saying Hughes is worth more than 2nd OVR and then some, and I have people saying Kaiden Guhle is worth multiple firsts but then also that PLD is worth less than a mid first.

Hughes is absolutely more valuable than 2nd OVR to the Canucks. He’s a 23 year old, #1 dman. Why trade him for someone they would hope is as good as him? It makes no sense. It would take a huge overpay for the Canucks to even consider moving him

thats like saying picks have no value because its better to have a guaranteed good player instead of the potential for a franchise altering player

The reality is that the draft is a giant lottery, no matter the draft position. Are you getting McDavid or Yakupov? Laine or Patrick? It's not that 2nd overall isn't valuable (and I think Nemec will be a great Dman), it's just that Hughes is now an established, young #1 that's locked up on a decent contract. There's zero reason to move him for what is still an unproven commodity.

Its crazy. If he isnt touchable, then say that. But dont claim that he is worth more than that for other teams when he is not.

Oh man. I'm not saying he's as good or valuable as McDavid or Matthews, I'm saying he's franchise altering for VAN; he's already the best Dman their franchise has ever had and he's still improving. But to accuse me of bias then lumping Jack Hughes in with the other two guys is hilarious man. Top level stuff.

Tell me you don’t watch hockey without telling me you don’t watch hockey. Hughes is not a defensive pylon. He was bad in the Canadian division, but was actually good defensively last year. So yes, we will keep our 23 year old franchise dman
