Description
Two guys I’ve wanted for a while

Knight would make a lot of sense for NJ as good young goalie, grew up close to area, is close with Hughes. He is an RFA next Summer and is represented by same agent as Demko, who signed $5m x 5 years after 59 NHL starts. With Bobrovsky locked in for four more years, that may be too steep a price for FLA. Currently, they are above the cap, have no top prospects or 1st round picks, and big holes to fill in defense. This trade helps a little with each issue. It gives them a top-4 dman, adds a couple prospects, adds picks, and gives them some cap flexibility. Last time, I tried with Mercer and Florida fans said they didn’t need the forward.

Petersson was a deal I had liked a while ago before we obtained Siegenthaler. Pens blueline shuffle may be done, I’m not sure.

This is the first deal that I feel like is close in terms of getting knight I'd accept personally but that's me personally probably a lot on the fence like me

I wouldn’t move Wood and Bahl for Pettersson. In this cap environment I would avoid multi year deals whenever possible.

Pettersson's deal is pretty reasonable and only two more years passed this season. The cap is supposed to start going back up like normal after this season, so it will become an even better deal. If Pettersson was an iffy player I'd understand the hesitation of a multi-year contract, but he's a proven 2nd pairing dman.

We'll start seeing a lot less of one or two year bridge deals after this season.

Pettersson would be the devils 3rd pair LHD, and his contract would prevent them from resigning Graves. Personally I’d add Dillon before I add Pettersson. At least it’s only two years instead of three.

Yeah, I took another look at the Devil's situation. He would likely be the 3rd pair, but I don't think he'd stop them from re-signing Graves. NJ is in a very good situation cap-wise next year. Yes, they have some players who will get some nice raises, but as of right now they're projected to have $32M free. Pettersson would likely be a luxury they can afford if they'd choose/want.

Just awful, really. Such a genius move for a team to trade a potential future elite #1 for some scraps.

But they don’t need him with Hughes, Siegenthaler, Bahl, and potentially Graves rostered next year

Graves and Siegenthaler would likely be their #1 and #2, but to assume that Hughes and/or Bahl will be ready NOW is unlikely.

Idk why people assume that prospects aren’t ready just cause they aren’t in the show. Beniers, McTavish and Sanderson could’ve played all of last season but didn’t. Hughes is the same way.

I mean in certain cases yeah. The idea someone like Hughes is going to be sent to the minors after this year is kind of ridiculous tbh. I think you know that. Devils don’t need Pettersson for that reason alone.

I appreciate that he was the 4th overall, but he's 19 years old. Jack clearly wasn't even ready his rookie year. High pedigree doesn't always mean you're NHL-ready from the jump. The difference between you and I here, is I know I don't know what players are ready before seeing them in action. You somehow think you do. One of these ways of thinking is flawed and one isn't.

If I had a dollar for every person on this board who's freaked out about either trading prospects or how ready they were only for that prospect to become nothing I'd be in a nice financial position.

Even if you are right about Hughes, and believe me you aren’t, Pettersson has three years left. The Devils have Siegenthaler locked in, Bahl and Walsh aren’t waiver exempt after this season, and they have Okhotyuk in the system.

Are all these guys going to hit? No. But considering the fact they r going to resign Graves, they have four or five guys competing for just one or two roster spots. They aren’t going to make matters worse by adding ur boy Pettersson. What a joke!

Your way of thinking is flawed. Lots of guys don’t go straight to the show because teams don’t want to burn a year off their ELC. Lots of guys go to college for two years to ENSURE they burn a year off their ELC. Some guys just enjoy playing in college, and there is no reason to rush their development if you don’t have to.

Do you honestly believe Marcus Pettersson is a better long term option for the devils than all the guys in the Devils system? Because I have news for you, he isn’t. That’s not me hating on Pettersson, that’s just a fact. The devils have a deep system and they don’t need him. It’s a joke to pretend a top five pick can’t play in the league yet, just because you want to defend this trade.

I don't think Pettersson is a good long-term fit. Pettersson afford the Devils the ability to remain competitive without having to rush any prospects.

Must be nice to know how things happen before they do.

I'm sorry you don't know how all this works, but hey, you'l figure it out one day hopefully.

I know what prospects the devils have, and who they currently have on their roster. That’s not knowing the future. That’s using ****ing common sense. Don’t be condescending to someone because they told you that Pettersson to NJ doesn’t make sense. What a joke. Smh

You have no idea how these players are going to develop or when they'll be ready. Thinking you do only makes you look foolish.

Devils fans were also SUPER sure about Smith. He was practically untouchable to them.

I mean Luke Hughes is fantastic. I’m willing to bet he will be ready, and if I’m wrong so be it. Doesn’t change where the devils r at rn. Their top four lefty d r set for the coming year and they have a lot of prospects in the system. That’s just me stating the obvious bud.

Bro. I like Luke Hughes as a player. I think he will be ready in a year.

If I’m wrong tho, the Devils still have Siegenthaler, they r probably going to resign Graves, and Kevin Bahl won’t be waiver exempt next season. That’s three NHL lefty d men right there. That’s just a fact bro. I don’t c what I did wrong here by pointing that out.
