Is john514 really a habs fan ? I've seen him too many time here come up with horrible trade ideas for MTL where they always massively overpay mediocre players (with horrible contracts sometimes)

Chuckle. I am a huge Habs fan. I am also a hockey fan. I feel most Habs ACGM's on this site over-value their players and under-value other team's players. For example: I think Josh Anderson and Rasmus Ristolainen have similar trade values right now. I would trade JA for RR today. Most Habs fans on this site want "the moon" for JA but spit on RR. It's a sad double-standard and I try, but don't often succeed, to hold myself away from it.

RR is a good player and can help the Habs be better than they currently are. Is it the right move if you're rebuilding, probably not. Is it the right move if you hope to sneak into the playoffs, probably yes.

Hughes didn't trade petry for Matheson only to go on and trade for another RHD with a massive contract with futures and overyoay by a lot, it would've been perry for him 1 for 1 if the habs were interested

The age difference between RR & Jeff Petry is a big deal. RR is currently cresting/getting better and reaching his prime. Petry was declining. Matheson is also cresting.

If habs were interested it would've been petry for him PERIOD, at this point its stupid to think habs are intrested and the price you're suggesting for a rebuilding team with cap issues is crazy plain and simple

I know you are dreaming of a lottery pick, but the Panthers are gonna be in the playoffs. Bet on it.

I know it’s like 99.99% chance they make it but you never know. East will be competitive (more than last year). Injuries can happen. You NEVER know!

I understand about the rebuilding aspect and wanting to tank.

The cap issues are not really a thing after this year and for the 2022-23 season, the Drouin salary cancels this out. Plus if they do this deal they can try and trade Savard at the TDL (if he's healthy). Even if they don't trade anyone in 2023 they have 18M+ in cap space all to sign Caufield & Harris... and that's assuming Price plays. If he doesn't they have 28M+.

Also RR has more upside than Petry, especially at his age. Habs would have had to add to make that deal (I know I'm gonna get killed here, but I said it)
