If it's in the Top 10, Rangers receive Dallas's 2024 1st.

It’s a risk for sure. But they weren’t gonna trade him at a discount. He’s got two years on his ELC and I think both the agent and the player went about this the right way.

And if Lundkvist steps into the Klingberg spot and excels than nobody will complain. I have to be honest, I don’t like the idea of trading a first round pick in most instances. But this d core is both young and good. That’s important.

Not really, Lundkvist a player who was drafted in the 1st round and still young, will fill a need eventually. Not getting him at a discount doesn't make it a bad trade. The Rangers may draft a better player in the deep draft but doesn't mean that Dallas would have. This trade might look terrible in hindsight but that doesn't make it a bad trade if it's because the guy selected with that pick is better.

Per Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News, the conditional 2025 fourth-round pick in the deal becomes a 2025 third-round pick if Lundkvist scores 55 or more total points over the next two seasons.

He’s 22 with 25 NHL games. He’s not worth a 1st anymore no matter how high you want to set his potential.

I’m not saying he is or he isn’t. I’m saying that it’s not shocking based off his draft slot.

He’s 22 tho. That’s why it is shocking. If he was 20 even with 0 NHL games I could see it but at 22 his potential can’t be that high if he can’t even play in the NHL now.

Okay. Still when your 22 and only have 25 games I still think your value as a player shouldn’t be near a 1st. But as was just pointed out it does make some sense because of the Romanov trade.

Maybe I’m crazy but with a guy like Nils I think the trade should be a conditional pick that gets better the more/better he plays. Say a 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he plays a certain amount of games and then a 1st if he plays that amount and produces a certain number of points.

Yes and so did NYI for Romanov and MTL for Dach. But they’re all in the same range value wise for young guys that obviously those teams think can still be good.
