Not a bad vet to be playing bottom pair with. The problem was his metrics. In that sort of role he should have had some success.

I'm not writing him off as an nhler. Just being realistic of what his new ceiling is. He was dominant as a 19yr old in the SHL. Since then he has tapered off.

Romanov got traded for a first

I don't know, I think if you take the risk, you deserve whatever result you get. Not sure its fair to say if it doesn't work out, he's an idiot and if it does work out he's just lucky. I mean there is a reason everyone wanted Lundqvist but with that said you'd think Nill would have backed off like every other GM has. I mean....its not like his cost could possibly go up higher than it is now playing in the AHL.

Its definitely odd though, I agree 100%. Given that the cost was so high, there was absolutely no reason to make this deal right now.

Would say the Person who takes his paycheck to the roulette wheel and wins is a financial genius? Same goes for Dubas and the Murray trade. It's a stupid unnecessary gamble.

The trade would make more sense if it were a 2024 1st. It would at least appear if Nill did some sort of negotiation.

Yup. I was wrong on that one. I'm man enough to admit it. Didn't think more than a 2nd was possible. Good on Drury. Nill gone mad!

This makes no sense and reeks of some sort of desperation by Nill.

Im shuddering at what the cost would have been had he not asked for a trade? Two 1sts and prospect?

I get RHD are in demand but this seems like a unneeded overpay by Dallas.

I mean Romanov got a 1st as well. Romy has no offensive upside. Cost effective, young D that have any prospect of moving into the top4 seem to go for a premium.

Makes me feel a bit better about the Lehkonen deal. Barron has looked a bit off in the rookie showcase

Nemeth is horrendous. The idea that he isn’t terrible to play with is ridiculous

You don't have to be a great defensemen to impart a bit of vetean knowledge to a young player. To be clear, Nemeth was given more minutes than Lundkvist. Which says a lot.

It says a lot about the rangers poor development strategy for European players.

Would you give Chara credit for Dobson’s development? Terrible philosophy to have.

Romanov is miles ahead of Lundkvist. Don't even get me started on Lou. Thank your lucky stars he didn't bring in OEL or some other washed vet. It was still a bad trade. But better than the stars deal. Less risky anyway.

Romanov has no offensive up side... hmmm... What does that say about poor Nils that a defensive Dman is out producing him?

Ok but roulette and player evaluation are not the same thing so its not something you can use as an example. Lundqvist is a known commodity but just needs development. Roulette is literally 100% luck. You can't develop a knack for where a ball will land on a completely random spin. You can develop a player who ahs the tools.

Yes Nill took an unnecessary risk but if it works out, he deserves the credit. That is literally how risk/reward works.

Well Im the first to say that Romanov was not worth remotely close to a 13OV pick, mayyyyyybe a late 1st and even then he's a LHD which is in less demand so I don't what to think anymore.

As for Barron, its the rookie tourny man. Ppl need to chill with player evaluations after a pointless tourny.. Guys who know they're probably NHL headed aren't risking injury in a rookie tournament. Wait till Habs camp, if he's still off then we know something is off.

A roulette wheel is a known commodity of 50/51 win rate. The odds on Lundkvist are not so certain. The payout is also a known commodity. Will Lundkvist be worth two firsts if he works out. Maybe??? I would say the roulette table is more of a known commodity.

I'm just not sure the risk is worth the reward in this case. Seems like a bit too high of a wager for the possible payout. Good on the rangers though. 7 picks in the upcoming draft and two of them in the first round gives them chips to move around at the deadline. Pretty damn good for a contending team.

Lol man I think you are underselling Lundqvist here. We both agree he's not worth what Dallas paid but to make it sound like a spin of roulette is the equivalent here isn't realistic. Lundqvist is still a good prospect. Not just some random nobody. He has higher odds of panning out to a decent player than you do of landing your number on the first try in roulette. He had a pretty decent 1st year in NA last year in which he played a good amount in the NHL. There's nothing to suggest his stock decreased OTHER than his trade demand.
