First, I'm not a Montreal fan

Second, it all depends on his performance until deadline

Third, you have no idea what Guerin thinks of Monahan

Yeah because this has been discussed on here for years. Russo who covers wild reported this. Wild aren't trading for Monahan. Might want to look into conversation about Monahan to wild

Toronto won't make that trade. They have Woll and Kallgren in the AHL who can both step up next year in the backup role if the need is there.

I don't get the impression that the vision of Gorton and Hughes is to trade pieces away for a quick rebuild.

I think they are going to develop internally, get younger through the draft and trading away the dead weight.

2023 draft is going to be deep, so, I can't see Montreal trading away Florida's pick, and I can't see NJ trading away theirs (especially if they are a fringe team)

and you can't just roll Guhle to RD.

Monahan's very different player compared to two or three years ago. Do you really think you could've got a Monahan from that time for a 2nd round pick? Ofc not.

I don't think it's about a quick rebuild necessarily. This is one relatively effective way to get a solid top-6 center at a reduced cost, while also avoiding prospects to lose value due to them having not enough room to impress. This was the key problem for Ottawa few years ago for instance, they acquired so many prospects that they started to lose value because of it.

This was never ever about the price. Also Minnesota has no room with Hartman as 1c and Rossi as 2c and Joel Eriksson Ek as 2c/3c.

Minnesota has other cheap 4th line C's on their roster. Guerin factually along with other GM's don't like Monahan. This has been discussed on here alot. Look up those conversations. So with all respect , it's still a no. Minnesota is giving the spot to younger prospects.

They also just signed sam steel to compete with connor dewar for 4th line C. So we don't need Monahan.

if they were on the clock to add a top 6 center sure, but they arent they have time on their side no need to give up a bunch of assets for Dubois. They will have cap space to play with soon and they can wait and see if Dach can take the next step and give Beck a couple years of development and then decide what route to go. All that Dubois trade does is make then slightly better in the short term, probably play themselves out of a top 10 pick this year and lose a few promising young peices, i dont see that being something that Hughes and Gorton want to do.

Apparently the almost completed trade during the draft was Dvorak, Evans, and a 1st for PLD. It got held up because the Jets wanted one more player to be added that MTL wouldn't give up (rumors are it was Petry, but that's never actually been confirmed). With that being said, the trade proposal isn't that far off from where they were at the draft.

I think the push this upcoming season is to see if Dach can break out, or if Monahan can return to form.

Either way, one of those two would result in you have a 2C going forward (Dach already signed, or Monahan extension)

If both happen, then you have the commodity of Dvorak or Monahan being shipped for a RD, whom they desperately need, as their depth relies on Mailloux at that position.

Not a fan of shipping any D out in a move for Dubois, simply because D and G are the institutional weaknesses for the Habs now.

Dubois is good, but honestly, I think he would fizzle quickly in the Montreal limelight, kid seems to have a thin skin and wear our his welcome wherever he is.

No need for TOR to make either trade.

Im so curious to see what PLD will get if he's traded anywhere this upcoming year. I don't see how any team (other than MTL) would be willing to give any stud asset to WPG unless they knew they had a chance to sign PLD afterwards. Now that doesn't mean the return would be garbage, its still 1 year of PLD which isn't nothing for a playoff team for example but unless they know there is a chance to resign him, no team is giving up a premium high end asset. it'll be more quantity then quality. Which would come to the same thing Habs would be offering. Either way we'll have to see. IMHO Habs pursuing Dubois by trade will only happen if they make major strides this year and I don't see that happening. Getting him in free agency might cost a little more in cap hit but just makes too much more sense than trading for him at any point before he becomes a UFA.

Here in montreal NO ONE heard of it and i can promise you they didn't offer that much
