LA and NYR trades were the previous season, the SJS trade happens on draft day it is the 7th overall pick, the boston trade also happens on draft day the pick is 16th overall with their top two centres retiring they want a cheap replacement for one of them plus two interesting pieces Nick Schmaltz scores 75 points the season before this draft

I figure 7th overall is equal to two firsts and this contract helps them to the cap floor plus the young d could use a veteran presence

Where is the premium prospect? Vilardi once was, turned out not to be. Plus they have to give up a 2nd as well?

They turned down 1st/Lysell/either Zboril or Achan/3rd from Boston. That was without having to give up a 2nd with JC.

Drop the 2nd it’s still lighter than they have been looking for but more in line.
