Kane to COL doesnt make sense

Description
Let me explain why:

1. Colorado has TONS of RW options, Nuke and Rantanen can swap the 1RW/2RW role depending on how Newhook is working as 2C (we will probably get a 2C by the deadline, Sam Bennett is likely if he continues to play well without Huberdeau). Kane would have to be shoved down to 3RW, which is not a good role for someone known for pure offense, they need TOI to flourish.

2. Kane is going to cost a quality prospect AND a 1st at minimum, with our depleted prospect pool and the likelihood of our first being late, I don't think we'd be able to make the best offer unless we gave an arm and a leg (Olausson and Behrens are two players I would be REALLY hesistant about giving up, and they're probably the most sought-after players in Colorado).

3. Our cap situation isn't the greatest. Granted, it could be worse (Tampa, Toronto), but nonetheless, we can't afford to re-sign Kane. I really don't think it's good asset management to pay bank for a guy for one year only to be unable to re-sign him (unless we're getting some cap space back or this player will REALLY elevate us).

None of this is saying that Kane isn't a good player, he clearly is still elite. However, I think people that just have the Avs being shoved Kane, and giving up the sun and the moon, don't truly understand Colorado's situation.

Look at the RW depth, none of Nichushkin nor Rantanen should be pushed to the 3RW spot, being given ice time was literally the reason Nuke exploded last season (pun intended)

Exactly. Which is why I said that if Bennett continues to shine in Florida without Huberdeau, we should seriously consider trading for him.

Florida feels they are a stanley cup contender themselves. I seriously doubt florida trades bennett with that contract unless you have a tkachuk.

I feel that Colorado has a legitimate chance of getting Kane just because he gets to decide where he goes. Kane isnt owed that much money so it will be cheap to get a 3rd team to retain salary.

Kane would be 1st line rw, Mikko would drop down and play with Newhook. Even without Kane it's highly likely that we see a Lehk-Newhook-Rants 2nd line.

It would be cool to get Kane, not sure its worth it in the mid-long run

But would Florida give him up though? The chances are very low

I think their need for defense might outweigh that concern. With Weegar gone I believe their team could just transition to pure offense with defense being a secondary concern, they honestly have a pretty poor defensive core outside of Ekblad, so I could see Girard being a good swap candidate with Bennett, similar cap hits, and solves Florida's need for some more defensemen. Obviously just a theory, tho.

See, if Nichushkin weren't in the mix, I would be fine with that. However, I don't want what happened to Skinner to happen to Nichushkin (less minutes, less productivity, and he becomes a cap liability). Obviously if Chicago were giving him away for free, I'd take it, but with the high cost combined with pushing Nichushkin down, I don't think it's worth it to acquire him. Assets would be much better spent on a 2C, ESPECIALLY if they're more than a rental.

You do not need to worry about that. Skinner's issue wasn't reduced minutes or PP time. It was that other teams caught on to Eichel gaining the zone on his off wing, posting up and dishing to Skinner flying through the slot and then Buff moving away from those "set plays" for Skinner when Eichel was out.

If Kane or any high end winger comes in, Lehk will drop down to 3rd line and Nuch would stay up. We would see tons of Blendnaring the lines tho. What makes Nuch such a gem and not a risk to be like Skinner is that he could have a bad year for points but would still provide so much more to the play/game than Skinner does.
Also for 1 run/16-24 games, pushing a high end winger down is a benefit not a problem. Lehk-Meyers-JTC would be fun.

I don't know if it would be worth it or not until we've seen what we have. If this crew can't repeat, then ya I think Olausson and a 1st would be worth it.

I doubt Sakic goes after a pure ufa. Kuemper has only been his one significant trade giving up prime assets that they haven’t kept or has term/rfa

Kane is a pure rental which is another reason why they wouldn’t consider him

IMO Sakic targets a c/w with some term or is an rfa. Assets are dwindling, they can’t afford to move what they have on guys they can’t keep

Rantanen can play 2C with Kane at 2RW. Or Nichushkin on the left.

A 1st + Olausson would be fair value with retention. CMac probably exhausts options for centers first though before Kane.
