Description
Sadly I don't have them making the playoffs. I think Hughes and Bratt will continue to shine. I believe Hischier will have another underrated season. Mercer should take another step forward. I look at the Top 4 and see a solid Top 4 that is capable of leading a team into the playoffs. The goaltending to me is a red flag. Blackwood has struggled to stay healthy and he wasn't good when he played. It looks like Bernier will not even play this season. Vanacek had two alright seasons with Washington, but he was kinda inconsistent and ended his time with Washington not so well (Got yanked in Game 2 against Florida). Tomas Tatar idk what will happen to him. I feel like guys like Jesper Boqvist, Nathan Bastian, and even Fabian Zutterland have passed Tatar on the depth chart. Miles Wood is back and how good will he be after not playing for like a year? Is Erik Haula really an upgrade over Pavel Zacha? Will guys like Mikey McLeod and Nate Bastian be able to provide enough scoring in the bottom 6? Will Alex Holtz make the starting lineup?

Team with huge potential going forward, especially with those young prospects/youth. The defense is shaky; that left side is not good at all, I think Severson is great offensively, but overrated defensively. The goal tending tandem is decent. Not a high lottery team but I see them out of the playoffs and 10th-15th overall pick. My opinion.

Siegenthaler and Graves can play. The reality is that in the long term having Hughes, Hamilton, Siegenthaler and Marino/Nemec in the top four is going to be a very tough unit to deal with in the metro.

Not with that current Goaltending, Perhaps in 1-2 years. Columbus is better than NJ. They will be a bubble team just on the outs.

I don't feel you know much about Siegenthaler and what he did last year.

How is Columbus better than NJ?

Better
Centers: NJ
Wingers: Columbus
Defense: NJ
Goaltending: Even

They are similar teams, if not, NJ better

I have no faith in this team making the playoffs. Tbh I don’t even think they will be within a couple of points. I just don’t think this is the year we make the jump though I’d love to be wrong. I have them pegged for around 82 points. A significant increase from last years 63

While I also think they'll end up missing out I expect them to land at around 95 points.
18 points gained from worst goaltending in the cap era --> league average goaltending.
3 points gained from firing Recchi and having Brunette running the powerplay.
4 points gained from Hamilton and Hughes dressing injury free for 70+ games.
2 points gained from swapping Ty and PK out for Marino and B. Smith.
5 points gained from further development from young guys / increased depth at forward and defence / not dressing Geertsen for 25 games.

It's a similar situation in Ottawa. With how the division is currently, there is just no way of telling who is going to make the playoffs. It's a death trap.

I have a general feeling that NJD is going to push for a WC. The same with Ottawa. That D looks good if it can remain healthy, the goaltending is adequate and can steal them a few games, the forward group is young but you know what they can do. Hughes and Hischier down the middle is solid. Palat is a good solid veteran add. Bratt coming back is huge but I really would've liked him to sign for a longer term.

Just like Ottawa, I think the future is bright in NJ.

If Holtz makes it out of training camp on the main roster, I can see him slotted in on 2nd or 3rd and if that’s the case, that would be a big help offensively. It’s hard to predict with this team. We have some great pieces in place but we have struggled greatly the past couple of seasons. The biggest question mark for me is goaltending. How good of a 1A/1B combo can Mac and Vitek be? Will Mac be back to form? Can this team stay healthy this year? I think we finish in April in or just outside of WC. This team is making tremendous strides but there’s still some holes to fix. Once we get L. Hughes/Nemec next year and some good goaltending, it’ll be a different story.
