I think Minnesota will be fighting for 2nd or 3rd in the Central, and Eller can help shore up center depth for the stretch run. If not Minnesota, then someone who needs center help.

This team, as is, looks pretty solid overall. And with the remaining ~$6mil, they can go out and sign a solid forward for some offensive help.

I am hesitant though that Iorio will be ready by next season. I think we may have to wait 2 seasons.

I agree with @All_Knowing here, and to add onto the Iorio portion, perhaps part of that 6 million could be used to bring back Jensen, as I don't think he'll be asking for too much and they can let Iorio marinate in the AHL for another year. I also think Fehervary will get slightly more money than what you currently have.

For a Fehervary bridge deal, my guess is he would come in around 3x3. Being an RFA, I brought the number down a little bit out of wishful thinking, but you're probably closer to being right. I think out of Jensen, Orlov, and TVR, they'll only be able to bring back two, and I'd rather keep Orlov and TVR. Love Jensen though, wouldn't mind him coming back if it works out. Iorio has been surprising with his development, and again, probably just wishful thinking on my part that he'll be ready... but it'd be pretty sweet if he was, eh?

Oh yeah, I'd love to see Iorio as soon as next year. I don't see it happening but if he can come in next year and fill in for Jensen, I wouldn't mind it in the slightest.

I think this is pretty solid. My only changes would be :

      1) Hathaway won't be back: as much as Lavi loves his veterans, MacLellan has actually been pretty good about not re-signing middle six types right before they fall off a cliff (beagle, chiasson, dsp) and I think Hath will be able to get more money elsewhere

      2) In this scenario where you re-sign Brown and let Jensen walk, they use up most of that 6.5m on a defenseman. Severson, Sanheim, Dumba, Dunn, Klingberg, and Weegar are all as of now about to hit UFA, and I think they could really use another bona-fide top 4 guy to round out the d-corps and let TVR continue to dominate 3rd pair minutes. I could also see them re-signing Jensen for around 4x3, not re-signing Brown, and then going after a top 6 winger with that same 6.5m. Tarasenko, ROR, Pastrnak, and Patrick Kane lead the pack of upcoming UFA forwards but even if they don't go for one of those four there will be plenty of options and the ability to take on a cap dump for free a la Pacioretty.

Not to echo the same sentiments of everyone else, but this looks good. If Backstrom is for sure not coming back, I don't see a scenario where the Caps just leave $6M at their disposal given how committed Leonsis and GMBM are to winning another one with Ovi. I imagine it comes by adding a top four RHD (or just bringing Jensen back) but this is pretty reasonable.
