After signing Merrill to a new deal it seems highly unlikely he is traded but the Isles would probably trade Aho for Merrill and Aho would be you're 7th.

I would say a couple things here, I think they signed Merrill to the extension seeing him as D6/7 (with Goligoski), as the top 4 are oft-injured, having him as an insurance plan to possibly slide into 2nd pairing for a short period of time is not the worst thing.

Second, I don't think the Wild would go after Puljujarvi if it meant that it blocked a roster spot this year for Rossi, however, if Rossi came into camp and did not earn a spot, I could see a deal for someone like him or Kerfoot.

Merrill doesn't make a ton of sense for the Isles to add - they just re-signed Sebastian Aho as a 6/7th D, and he'd have to go through waivers to get down to the AHL. As said above, if you wanted to swap em out, I wouldn't hate it, but it's not an area where the Isles should be spending a pick to add to a surplus.

Interesting package for Puljujarvi - Shaw might be a late bloomer, and looks like he'd bring some sandpaper to that team (a new/better Zack Kassian maybe?) I think if they're looking to move him they might get a little better of a package, but this isn't that far off in my eyes.

Aho is penciled in as the 6th d man rn, but either Chowalski or Salo will have a chance to win it in Camp. Really the isles just need one of those three guys to be good next year, which is pretty realistic imo.

I saw Kurz say that too and I was surprised - felt like it was going to be Salo's job to lose, Aho hasn't really shown much of anything in the few years he's been here.

I would 100% do this deal as Aho for Merrill if Bill Guerin wanted Aho, but that's as far as I'd go.

I agree, but only because Lou hates losing guys on waivers. From a talent standpoint I think it will be Chowalski or Salo who earns the job. And they both have decent size which Lou likes.

One other thing to note here. I wouldn’t be shocked if they waive Johnston this year. I could c them carrying Hutton as their 4th righty d.

I’d make that trade if I ran the Wild.
