Answering a question with a question.
Taking one comparable and forcing it into a finer detailed situation.
Your idea is fine. But there has never ever been a goaltender traded for that much, in any scenario.
Does that mean it would never happen ... idk. Sure there are some variables on WPG to be considered. But to say that the trade is ridiculously under priced is wild. When it would be the biggest trade for a goalie ever.
Well okay, I get your point. Maybe I exaggerated a bit, I don't really know the history of goalie trades all that well. I suppose you have a clearer picture of that.
However, the reason that the return for a goalie has never been much greater than what is suggested in this acgm trade might be that teams very rarely actually trade away their good/great starting goaltenders unless one of the following happens:
1. Goalie is trending downward for x amount of time
2. Org. and player doesn't get along
3. Player is soon to be UFA
4. Team is in rebuild mode
5. Some other reason I can't come up with atm
If the suggested deal was offered to a team that holds a goalie of Hellebuycks caliber and who isn't rebuilding or has any obvious reason to trade him, I don't think it would be enough.
