Stolarz is better than Holtby and Holtby cant even play this year if ever again

Subban is the last thing the Ducks need we already have 3 offensive RD, especially if the plan is to play him on the left side. Vaak is going to be LD3, Kulikov is LD2

Sprong gets nowhere near that much money or term, he'll be lucky to get a PTO

I don't agree with a single one of those five moves. Particularly poor for the Ducks, in my opinion, is the gratuitous trade of one of the best backup goalies in the League last season for a fifth-round draft pick, compounded by replacing him with a goalie who hasn't been even AHL quality in four seasons.

Ehhh, that's a bit rough, he's been NHL quality for some of them, specifically when in Dallas, it's been health, or lack there of that's his current issue, and it's what is making him take a season off to heal.

That said, it's pointless to ship Stolarz out for parts and sign him to be the backup. Stolarz has been performing his role perfectly.

-Major overpays for PK Subban and Daniel Sprong. I'm not saying they're gonna have to settle for league minimum, but feels like at this point you should be able to get them both in the $1-1.5M range each. I also don't see the sense in signing Subban to play for a brand new team on his offhand - has he ever really played any minutes at LD?

-Gonna wrap the other big signing and the trade into one - Holtby has been said to be unable to play this season, if ever again; regardless, he will 100000% not be ready for opening night. Beyond that, Stolarz has established himself as a very strong backup goalie on a sub-$1M deal - if you want to move him, I would hang on through the deadline and find a contender wanting to upgrade their backup and get much, much, much more than just a late 5th rounder for him. At that point you can bring up Luka Dostal to be the full time backup behind Gibson and roll with that going forward.

Yeah, I was just so irritated at the net result of the trade that I didn't go back to look at Holtby's record. He had one poor season with Vancouver and a poor last year with Washington but the year before that was good and last season he did a pretty good job of rebounding with Dallas.
