Ari doesn’t need Kylington at all (they are rebuilding) and they are certainly not giving up any high picks (1st/2nds). Vegas are saving cap space by giving away both Hague and Roy but they are massively overpaying the Flames. I don’t think either Ruzicka or Valimaki would get much playing time in Vegas.

Arizona does it because:

1. Kylington is worth a late 1st but they'd only be giving up an early 2nd.
2. They're going to trade Chychrun as soon they get an offer they like, Kylington is a mobile puck moving defenseman with great speed to replace Chychrun.
3. They can always flip Kylington if they decide he doesn't fit their plans.

It's not a great deal for Vegas but it's not the massive overpay you say it is either. You don't get full value for assets when everyone knows you're in cap hell and need to move some salary out. Ruzicka and Howden would compete for the 3rd line center position. Valimaki would be in the same spot on the depth chart in Vegas as Hague is. The difference is Valimaki is already signed for this year at 1.55 mil while Hauge is an unsigned RFA looking for around 3 mil per year on a new contract.

That early 2nd from Arizona is going to Vegas too, NOT to Calgary.

Just another guy hating on and undervaluing the Flames Prospects and not realizing a Young Established D-Man they can build around is far more valuable than Draft Picks which are a complete lottery and years away from presenting any value

I doubt Hague gets that kind of money, but we wouldn't be able to afford both Roy & Hague than either, so what's your thoughts or play to fit them in under the Cap?

Brett Howden + Nic Hague might make more sense

Good point on not being able to afford both Roy and Hague. I forgot to fill out the rest of the roster. frown

Hague is projected to get somewhere in the 2-3 mil range. I was hoping Calgary could sign him in the middle of that range around 2.5 mil per. He's not as skilled or as fast as Kylington but Calgary has plenty of skilled defenseman and he is a whole lot bigger and meaner which Calgary could use more of.

I wanted Roy over Howden mostly because of right shot vs left shot.
