Toronto gives up top line winger, 2 1sts, 2 quality young pieces, another prospect, a 40-50 point winger making 750k in real money, and a cap dump for the cost of a top line d man, a 2nd line winger, and a guy who just signed in FA. Assuming Nylander and a 1st was the cost for Chychrun (shouldn’t be that high but let’s go for it) and a 1st was the cost to dump Muzzin (again, shouldn’t be that high), than the Leafs are basically paying Kerfoot (50% retained btw), SDA, Sandin, Robertson, and a 2nd for…. Konecny?
Yeah, I think the Leafs pass
Few things:
first off this idea of this was from a TML fan. He wanted to see what it would take to get TK. I said it wouldn’t because it doesn’t make sense for either team. Started playing around and this was constructed. I did comment also saying this was a response to go down the crazy rabbit hole. In no way does this make sense.
Secondly, if you are going to use a Toronto only basis, at least be correct in your descriptions.
- Nylander 6.9M and needs a raise in two years. Is he re-signing over Matthews and Bunting?
- picks most likely between 25-32. Don’t act like they are top 10-15. Toronto isn’t deep in their prospect pool because they keep trying to win a cup and leverage everything for the “this is our year”
- both Sandin/Robertson have upside, but are unproven. Sandin not being signed hurts his value, Robertson is small and has injury problems. Could this be the worst thing from this trade in 5 years? Possibly.
- he isn’t even in your top 10 prospects. Stop acting like he moves the needle too far one way or the other. If I said Knies or Niemela I would get it.
- 40 point LW (look at faceoff numbers before saying he is a center) that won’t replicate 50 points on another team. Also is the overwhelming favorite as “MOST EXPENDABLE” player in Toronto. Makes 3.5 against cap, that matters more to teams than “actual money” for the teams that would have use for him.
- 5.6 Million for not just one, but two seasons. Mix in injury questions, history.
- here is the biggest point…. cap space. Toronto frees up so much space and would be primed to also add more. This doesn’t even factor that you can move your 6’4 20+ Min/gm monster in Holl and have 3.5M left over.
You also bring in two players who are established. JC is in his prime at 4.6 for three more seasons. TK is a slight downgrade from Nylander, but being 25 and never having elite cast mates…5.5 million for 3 seasons sounds great. Stecher as a depth piece allows you to move Holl or rotate between the two.
