Not really. If the pens didn’t pay a 1st to dump Zuckers contract which is twice the cap hit, why would they pay a 2nd to dump McGinn?
They have 24 contracts and just under 1.5 million over the cap. They will likely send DOC down which is half the cap. They could send Smith down and bring POJ up which saves 38k. Then they could just put McGinn on waivers to send him down. If someone claims him that’s 2.75 million in savings, if not that’s 1.125 million more in cap space. So they could save anywhere from just over 1.9 million-3.8 million just by putting him on waivers to send him down.

Absolutely no one is claiming him. He has 3 years left. A 2nd to move over 8m would not be passed over.

Ok no one claims him. So he gets sent down and pens get cap compliant. If the pens wouldn’t pay to move Zucker then they aren’t doing it for McGinn either. If they were, they’d have done it by now.

And your point? Sending him down still makes the team cap compliant. If they weren’t paying to move Zucker, then they aren’t paying to move McGinn.

No it wouldn’t. It would be a complete waste of an asset without the ability to get better.
