Neither player is waiving their NMC for a rebuilder.

There's no reason for Chicago to do this, with Kane being still usable and worth his deal. EK has become overpaid. He's still good at times, but he's not worth that kind of money anymore

Hate to burst your bubble but according to NHL app, Karlsson never asked to be traded and doesn’t want out. You may be a bigger fan of SJS than me but what I have seen he doesn’t want out.

Fix a wrong done by the hockey gods, send EK65 to Toronto so they can finally have their savior top pair RD and send JT to SJS, where he was reported to been offered the most $$$ when he was UFA.

Karlsson hasn't asked for trade from Sharks: report

That isn't necessarily true though. Unless a player publicly demands a trade, it is better for them to just dismiss the idea and be able to keep as much privacy as possible. Petry said the same thing, and soon after was traded to Pittsburgh. It is necessary for them to say they didn't demand a trade, especially the older players. It gives an impression of selfishness to the media that is probably false, and not wanted for the players.

Its still possible Karlsson didn't demand a trade, but it isn't unlikely that he did as well.

Well you could say the exact same thing about any player then. I heard Cole Caufield demanded a trade out of Montreal because they suck.

If a player is so disgruntled to demand a trade, he'd likely just dodge interviews and/or say nothing on the topic instead of talk at length in an interview about how much he likes his current situatoin.

i was going to comment the same thing!
this is a direct quote from the article from thursday of this week

“No, I committed here a long time ago,” Karlsson said when asked about a potential trade request. “It didn’t work out the way we wanted it to early on. There’s a lot of things that probably played into that. I’m not going to get into details about that. But I am excited for the future here now. I hope we can move in the direction to be successful again. Is that going to be this year? I mean, who knows? But I do think something good can come out of here.”

GM’s know which players demanding a trade and which ones aren’t and when the lie in public saying something else behind closed doors give the impression he’s a bad teammate a liar and not trustworthy.
it’s always better to skirt the questions or say things like! “i just want what’s best for the team and I’l let the GM do his thing”

Honestly wouldn’t be shocked if he did want out, but with Burns gone he is the #1 D and that’s what he wanted anyways. maybe Grier let the guys know his plan and they are on board! couture and Hertl have said similar things so i have to assume Grier has a good plan in place and is open with the boys.

I'm sure GMs lie themselves all the time, same with coaches. Karlsson might have told management he is open to a trade but he didn;t request one, so he can deny it in public so that he doesn;t handicap Grier anymore, there's already his massive cap hit and injury history+age that teams would need to worry about.

except with Burns gone we need Karlsson to play and excell or we’re a bottom 3 team this year.

I personally think bottom 3 is the goal. Burns wanted out before Grier but he did sit down with him and they discussed what he wanted, I believe that included discussing the direction the team is headed. Since, Burns is gone now, I'm assuming it's because they plan or rebuilding, probably similar to what LA did.

I think they would move Karlsson if possible and Meier if they can get a high pick in next draft or a bif return during this season.

WIth Bedard at the top of next year's draft, that's not exactly a bad idea.

How bad to have to hate where you are at to accept going to the wasteland of Chicago where you know the management team is actively tanking.

Whether or not EK asked for a trade is irrelevant. Whether or not either would waive NMC for this deal is also irrelevant. Hawks hang up the phone immediately if this is the offer. You are gonna have to pay through the nose with picks and prospects if you want Chicago to take on 4 additional years of $11.5M. And that is a non-starter for a non-playoff team like SJ.

This Trade was more of a joke and an opportunity to talk about Kane and Karlsson than to be taken literally

in the pacific i can easily see that but worse team in hockey i just can’t see unless Hertl Couture Karlsson and kahkonen get hurt and Meier gets traded.
best case senario for our future we end up last in the pacific and get the 2/3rd OA (i’m the weirdo that doesn’t want Bedard i want Fantilli)
worst case senario for our future is oddly the best case senario for the year Kunin and Lindblom come into their own as Coutures wings, Labanc rebounds nicely as 3rd RW Karlsson returns to a top line D guy and Kahkonen becomes a legit top 15 starter in the leauge and the sharks are close to a playoff team.

I do too but sharks targets should be Fantilli #1, his size and ability would be a great compliment to the smaller very skilled prospects Gushin Robins Bordeleau Eklund. #2 for me would be Yager good size and RW which we lack a top line RW prospect or NHL player. love Barabanov but he isn’t really a top line RW.

he would be a smart pickup to play along side one of your two stud young centers.

everyone expected a Vegas like team from Seattle but the way your GM is building a your team for the future is much smarter. in 3-4 years that team will be set to contend for years if they keep drafting like they have.
