Yes, you have to have a need at the NHL level. There are a few teams like this and the SJS is one of them.

Sharks already have 4 top 9 C that are going to be in SJ for at least 5 more years (Hertl Couture Eklund Bordeleau) plus Sturm at 4 C for the next 3 years, then you also have Robins and Lund who both have top 9 projections as well then you also have weatherby and Reedy who are bottom 6 C. sharks are fairly set at C. Now at RD we have Karlsson… and that’s about it. Merkley has talent but i just get this BUST feeeling in my gut with him right now and needs a good season to gain some momentum, even if he take the next step he will always be very undersized at 5’8” 163LBS, Benning is a depth 6/7 guy. in the prospect pool Laroque looking like a stud but is about 1-2 years out and the new guys from 22 draft, Havelid & Fisher could be very good but are 3-4 years out and Barnett is mostly a Big Defensive D who again is 3-4 years out. so if you can trade Prospect from your deepest position for an NHL ready prospect at your weakest position who is also still on his ELC i think most GM take that and run.

As a NYR fan I would find this interesting, don't know the roof or floor of Bystedt, and how long it would take for him to get NHL ready... But it is better than a high 2nd in this years draft.
And Karlsson mentoring Lundkvist should be interesting for SJS and his projectability.
